Question: Double dip with Google Checkout and Airlines Malls?

Say, i was looking over this latest news that Google Checkout is awarding frequent flyer miles [From now until December 31, US residents who register to participate will be able to earn two frequent flyer miles for every dollar spent through Google Checkout. Participating airline reward programs include Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines , Delta Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Northwest Airlines , US Airways, and United Airlines.] with use of the checkout tool and wondered if anyone else has tested this yet to see if tunneling in through the airlines malls and still using the Google Checkout tool will net us double miles or more? This looks like a serious way to earn miles, Cyber Monday or not.

I noticed a number of the same merchants in this list from Google:

Randy, I actually just came across this Google Checkout offer too, but haven't done it yet.

If this GCO is run similarly to their older ones ($10 off) I was able to get those offers and the miles through the United Mileage Plus Mall with buy.com.

Your best double dip opportunities, IMHO, is to use giftcertificates.com via an airline mall and use that certificate to shop at the store thru an airline mall.

I haven't looked into the google offer, but a 2/$ it's on par with the gift certificates opportunity.

It appears that purchases that I made using Google Checkout when going though Jellyfish to get 7.5% cash back at RitzCamera never got credited to my Jellyfish account.

Edited to add that last year I made purchases at Buy.com via Marriott online mall using Google Checkout to get $10 discount on each order and the purchases did post.

Although I haven't tried this offer, I have used giftcertificates.com to earn miles from L.L. Bean (which is not on any mall).

I bought a GC from giftcertificates.com (and earned 200 UA miles ) and used the GC at L.L. Bean's website. That way I earned 200 miles from L.L. Bean!

yea, know this one well but have found that the two-step is a bit confusing for many average mileage people and was thinking that anything we could discover to make these opportunities seem simpler would help others. Simpli(fly)

Very nice find!^ What I don't understand is where the extra miles go to. Do they go to whatever CC you are using, or straight to your account? Also are the two miles per $1 in addition to the miles earned from charging the CC or do they deduct everything straight from your bank account?

Google Checkout's TOCs say you don't earn the 2 miles per dollar from them for purchases dated prior to sign-up for the promo. And you can't sign up for the promo without a Google Checkout account. And you can't get $10 off shipping at buy.com and perhaps other places unless you open a new Google Checkout account when checking out.

For the purchase I made yesterday at buy.com via Google Checkout, the $10 off for a new account was worth more than the extra 2 miles per dollar. So I opened the new GC account while checking out, got the $10 off, and immediately went to the GC promo page and signed up for the promo. Maybe I'll get the 2 miles, maybe not.

Interestingly, when signing up for the promo, the GC site evidently used a cookie to link my account to the Skymiles account number I provided, because it didn't ask me for any identification that could connect me to my purchases. But it knew me, because at the top of the screen it had the email address I used for the new GC account.

all miles are in addition to any shopping miles you might double dip from and as well any credit card miles. They now have up all the rules:

Thats pretty much my position as well.

Got the $10 off a buy.com order through GC a month ago.

But this promo sounds a bit more attractive to me as I order a LOT of stuff online...probably 75% of everything I purchase.

So thanks to this thread, I registered for the mileage offer. Not sure if Ill get it or not but its worth a shot.

Im thinking that Google Checkout needed to attract some 800# gorillas to their new service and Buy.com is a biggie they can use for bragging rights as they sign up additional customers.

This $10 offer through Buy.com was probably funded almost entirely by Google as a thanks for being a charter member of GC.

Thanks for the heads up.

Following on the logic of the double dipping process -- what happens if you --

1 Go through Google Checkout for double miles

2 Buy gift cards via airline mall at giftcertificates.com

3 Go back through Google Checkout for double miles

4 Buy goods using the gift certificate

Does this mean quadruple reward? Is my logic flawed?

Yes, your logic is flawed, because if you use gift certificates you would never go through Google Checkout the second time in step 3.

But wouldnt this still amount to triple-dipping?

If you count the miles you earn from your mileage CC, quadruple-dipping again?
