What will be the 2003 Bonus of the Year?
I'm not sure if these years are right but...
1999 had the 100k bonus x 7 airlines
2000 had the Latin Pass Million Miles
2001 had Pudding Guy Million+ miles
2002 had the KLM status and mile transfer (netting some people millions)
What would you recommend some airline offers us in 2003 to claim the Bonus of the Year? Maybe one of them is listening...

I am hoping one airline will do what KLM did last year(Its already 2003 in Sweden). I wasnt able to finish the KLM run last year but I would love to make a new attemp this year on a different carrier.
Otherwise I really hope one of the new Star Airlines will bring us a nice promotion. Do you listen OZ,JK and LO?

With the just announced Starwood devaluation for level 5 and 6 properties, it looks like the real bonus in 2003 will be any program that can keep the benefits and reward levels we currently enjoy!

With some programs potentially going under, and many definitely reducing mile value, wouldn't it make sense for one airline to run a good promotion.
For instance, if AA ran a program inviting elite UA FFers to get comped, and get..say...100k for highest level, 50k for next, etc. if people fly 12 segments. They might steal some top UA business when it is at risk, earn some income on the flight segments, and give away declining value miles to people who probably have so many, they rarely use them.
As a marketer, I can say, if everybody expects, accepts and acknowledges that FF miles are going down in value, the programs will see this, and figure it is a good time to do just this. It is self-fulfilling. You never want to introduce changes that go against the prevailing attitudes, but right now, I'm not sure they would be too uncomfortable making the changes.
I still believe that FF miles, if used correctly (and that is a big "if"), can be the salvation for some airlines.

Guess AC's Aeroplan fits that bill, BB, and is starting to look good again: No changes from last year [
], and a few more benefits for mid-tier Elites.
And while AA hasn't changed anything else, an increase in award "prices" takes effect later this year, so even it doesn't fit your criteria. KL is changing some things after its exceedingly generous offer to non-NAmericans [amazing how many residents of this continent managed to qualify though, with the help of overseas postal addresses], as I believe is LH.
Given the precarious nature of US and UA, I doubt we will see overly generous promos from competitors, since AA and NW will pick up new members by default, even without offering up much more than tier matching. UA is doing the best it can by offering an extra few months to earn top tiers.
