October Hilton Profile Update

Just an early reminder to get your 2000 HHonors points for the new quarter on October 1. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

ozstamps Jul 1, 2002 6:01 am

I received a Hilton rain check from Q2, and sent that in, so they have given me the October Q4 points in advance. Saves trying to remember. Darn nice idea. You may use it up to 4 times they say per calendar year. If you require the rain security check code to use please email me - [email protected] or read my Soylent Green posts in chexfan's July update thread.

gleff Jul 27, 2002 5:50 am

Can you feel the anticipation building?

usflyer999 Jul 27, 2002 8:03 am

Appears that some live only to see that post count increase. Get a life.

Had nothing to do with post count.

I have no desire to start a flame war with you. I believe that your admonission that I "get a life" was uncalled for and possibly violated the FT TOS:

Personal attacks on individuals, insults and "flaming" will not be tolerated and will be removed. You may challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully.
All that aside, I think that my posting history demonstrates a contribution to the community.

So why did I post this? Because I thought it was amusing, and I thought that a few others might be amused.

Do I care about my post count? Not generally, although I do admit that I memorialized my 1000th post.

Anyway, usflyer999, not cool.

I agree. gleff is very well respected contributor to the FT community, and this thread was rather amusing until usflyer999 made his completely uncalled for comment... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

RDY3238 Jul 27, 2002 1:31 pm

USflyer99 - you are not allowed to criticize anyone until at least FT puberty - around 250 posts. And only then in a more mature fashion. VERY uncool.

On Topic - AARRRGGGGG

cordelli Jul 27, 2002 2:01 pm

It's funny, if it were any other topic then the Hilton Points I would say it's to increase post count, though I am not sure why that is important. But everytime somebody brings this up again it shows how obsessed some people are sitting around, programming their machines to beep at 1am on the first day of each quarter, anything for the 1,000 points. When people can't get the bonus points, start another six or seven threads to figure out how to get those few extra points.

Just think, in two years, you will have almost enough points to get a free weekend night room at a fairly decent hotel, assuming you don't miss any of the available updates.

So yes, the Hilton update threads have been beaten to death around here, and not just in the Hilton section, but it wouldn't be the same without a dozen of them running at the same time.

gleff Jul 27, 2002 3:19 pm

Thanks for the support.

All that said, I will admit that resurrecting that thread may have been amusing to me but I can see plenty of FTers rolling their eyes as well.

It was just a goof on how we all do things around these parts.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Only 65 days, 6 hours and 20-odd minutes, taking into account the time zone their computer is in.

afrugal1 Jul 27, 2002 6:34 pm

Nicely done, gleff.

Usflyer, we value your participation and look forward to further positive contributions.

Cheers!

People who have only recently joined a club won't get the in-jokes.

So why don't we give usflyer999 a break as well.

* * * UPDATE * * *

I will be on vacation all October so I called Hilton and asked if I may update for Q4 now, and not bother using the e-rainchecks referenced above. They did it for me, and enrolled me in another new 50,000 challenge. They are very nice folks in there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

People who have only recently joined a club don't usually start in by insulting other highly-respected long-term members.

Hilton just allowed me to book a GLONP award even though I do not have the 150,000 points in my account. I was able to convince them that I will continue to update my profile and receive the 2000 points per quarter so they advanced me the points. I may be into them for the next 18 years, but what the hey!

Hilton is a wonderful company and their agents are so willing to please. All you have to do is ask them, and they are more than happy to do it!

Congratulations!

I think that Hilton has just finally relented to an advanced understanding of physics.

Newtonian conceptions of time are just plain wrong. Time isn't linear. So, there's no reason that I should "wait" to update my profile in the future. There is no "future" as we normally conceive of it.

So, if you repeat the magic incantation, Hilton will let you do all of your quarterly updates at once.

Bet your high school physics teacher would be proud of your hotel stays!

I know that everyone is rushing to the defense fo gleff, but I am critical. He seems so avant guard and yet...

October Profile Update...that is SO three months from now.

If you were on the cutting edge you'd be hyping the January Profile Update.

Get with it!!

cordelli Jul 29, 2002 7:33 am

I believe that by setting the clock on the PC ahead you can fool the system into letting you do the updates for the future. I was only able to get to the year 2025, because that is all my system clock will go to. I have contacted the company to see if there is an update to the bios so I can continue to stack the bonus points, it took a bit of explaining, but they are going to put several people on it immediatly.

They actually laughed, saying the Pentium will never last that long, I reminded them about how mainframes were not supposed to last until Y2K, they are not laughing now.

Ah, the famous Y2.025k bug! Glad someone's working on that one. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Not only did I get it all the way to In The Year 2525, I wrote this neat little song about it.

This is the tragedy of oldies radio. All these long haired teeny boppers knowing all the GOOD music, yet never having to have endured the 1960s to do so. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

One of the classic one hit wonder outfits.

My goodness. This is only about 40 days away. Time to begin the trial runs.

Never too early to prepare!

While reading this thread, I suddenly realized that I didn't update my profile for Q3. No, seriously. Now I'm 2,000 pts richer. Thanks gleff for the reminder. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I recommend doing the profile update from today until october just as a little training session. So nothing can go wrong on oct. 1st.

Mike M Aug 28, 2002 9:22 am

FYI: The CSR has the ability to see every update you make to your account as a record log. So if you do training runs the CSR will be able to see you were practicing - Not that it matters.

Back in day when updates were new and "our little secret" and CSR's had no clue about Hilton stated policy regarding updates, a CSR pulled 1k miles from my account after viewing my mutiple "training runs" and accused me of misusing the system. After arguing the issue another CSR reinstated them back.

It shouldn't happen today as the CSR's seem to be aware of this as a legitimate bonus for updating your account.

(putting my training helmet on)

You have to be alive to have an HH account. Therefore, you can only do updates for as long as you're going to live. If you do updates a quarter at a time into the future, the point at which you can no longer do them tells you, to the nearest quarter, when you will pass on.

Anyone care to try this?

We need the Hilton Profile Update more than ever. Pretty soon, HHonors points will be worth more than USAirways points...
