Why the dog pile on USFLYER999? gleff's was a silly, timewasting post from the start and RDY3238's subsequent lecture was itself the epitomy of uncool. Come on folks, this is a terrific forum from which we've all benefited. Let's not clutter it with valueless posts.

Whose time was wasted? Yours, perhaps, but primarily because you spent extra time posting. Mine, perhaps, because I now have something to reply to (also caused by you).
How about the time of all the other folks that posted? Clearly not. It's funny. An inside joke. And anyone who has been here awhile knows that the "Hilton Profile Update" posts are just that - a joke. Do inside jokes waste your time? If you're just trolling for the next Goldpoints/Valuemags promo then possibly. If, on the other hand, you're also participating in a community .. then I think they are very much a part of that community. Enough kvetching... time to try to update my Hilton Profile again just in case there's a glitch and don't catch that I've already done it twice... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ "Would you convey my compliments to the purist who reads your proofs and tell him or her that I write in a sort of broken-down patois which is something like the way a Swiss waiter talks, and that when I split an infinitive, d*** it, I split it so that it will stay split." - Raymond Chandler, to the editor of the Atlantic Monthly, 1947 More Room Throughout Coach: the Website of Free Miles and Free Markets |

That line should go down as a classic here on FlyerTalk! Good one Gleff |

i got 2000 points today that i would not have had if not for gleff. plus i will be gettign another 2000 in a few days. all for just changing my email address on my hilton honors profile and then changing it back. Looks like the gig is up, at least partially. E-mail just in from HHonors indicates that the profile update bonus will be cut down to 500 points (twice) come October 1st. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
|
With the update bonus lowered to 500 x 2 points quarterly, we'll actually have to do some online hotel booking!
It was nice while it lasted. |

Yep, I got the bad news in an email as well. For those of you who didn't get it, here is the exact wording:
"Members may earn a maximum of 2,000 HHonors profile update bonus points per calendar quarter through September 30, 2002. As of October 1, 2002, members may earn 500 HHonors profile update bonus points with a maximum of 1,000 HHonors points" |
500 miles? We might as well have a Goldpoints update thread!
Uhh.. how often can we request quotes from Skymilesautobuying.com and vehiclemiles.com? ------------------ More Room Throughout Coach: the Website of Free Miles and Free Markets |
Bad news, indeed. It was a good run while it lasted.

I hate to wade in on this post with a serious question, but could someone please tell me the address for updating your Hilton profile? I thought it was http://www.hiltonhonors.com/profile, but this merely redirects to the main homepage.
Similarly, I was sent an offer of 1000 points to change my PIN. Despite following the link in the e-mail and changing my pin, nada points. |
Am I the only person who will be waiting up until midnight on Monday to get the points for changing my password?

I'm in bangkok now. It is 4:45 am. AND I CAN'T SLEEP. You know why. This free HHonors points is driving me crazy.
|
You go into your account from the main page now to do the upgrade, the /profile one hasn't been functioning for many weeks.
I'm on the main profile page now, I'll keep hitting refresh every few seconds until midnight because I don't want to miss one possible second of not hvaing the points (actually, I usually get them the ast day because I just never get to it). |

Just signed up and got my 3,000....get the next 2,000 tomorrow. As a travel agent, I've let many of my corporate clients aware of this deal.

Isn't it 1000 tomorrow, or is there something I don't know. |

Okay, this little cutie seems to have been closed already. It's 500x2=1,000 pts now. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Unfortunately, things are not as they initially seemed.
The bonus confirmation message still says 1000 points and the total points at the top of the page does initially show the addition of 1000 points after the profile update but when I logged out and logged back in, the total was only increased by 500 points. So it would appear that maximum update bonus per quarter is indeed only 1000 points, i.e. 500 points per update. I guess its no surprise but the programmers didn't quite finish the job. |

Interesting thing happened. I logged on, changed the phone #, got the 1000 pt. popup and the total points went up 1000.
I logged out, logged back in, and total points is back to initial total. So I logged out and in again, nothing has changed. I changed the email address, got the popup again and the total points increment 1000. I logged out & in, point total is still 1000 up. I changed the fax #, and got no popup or point change. The net result is that I got 1000 total points for my efforts. In line with what people said would happen, but a strange way for it to occur. Time was @ 00:40 CDT on 1 October. |
Isn't that exactly the nett effect Larry U posted here earlier? |

It appears the Hilton programmers had a few too many...you do end up with a total of 1000 points (eg 500 points twice), although the messages that appear in the box say you are being awarded 1000 each. If you blink twice or thrice and go back and look at your total, you will see you got a total of 1000 pts for your 2 efforts to update.

And furthermore, I would be willing to bet everything I own that Mtroll advising their clients of this would have about a 99% less chance of Hilton having "this littel cutie closed forever" than would the very public postings here on FlyerTalk. What's the point? We can share it with our little group, but it's a horrible transgression if someone shares it outside our group? That said, I am all in favor of as sharing this info with as many people as possible, out in the open and not operating in the shadows. |
I would be against a USA Today ad, but I find it very RICH to hear where the criticism is coming from!!

Several years ago Randy noted, specifically with reference to a question I'd put to him, that any travel agents and the like were all welcome here on FlyerTalk! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
FWIW, I'll wait for the HHonors servers to calm down to do my update! Thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif -Mark |

I, for one, do not wish to abuse this feature, but I have to confess to feelin' a little bit guilty when I do it. Jeff Diskin Well, I honestly hadn't thought about. I think we should have enough dynamic information in there to make it worthwhile to check often. And we are happy to give incentives so that you'll be more inclined to keep your account profile up to date, and get used to managing things that way. It makes us more accurate, enables us to serve you better, and is more efficient... so yes, we are okay if you go change your profile for an extra 1,000 points...and in the next few months, you'll see some additional reasons to provide more profile information, making it more worth your while than just the 1,000 points!
