At AA there is an unpublished benefit. When you earned 1 million miles (no matter if by flying or otherwise) you get lifetime gold status.

When you earned 2 million miles you get platinum life status.

So, when I earn 100k miles each year I will get lifetime gold status after 10 years, even if I've never seen an AA-plane from the inside.

It might even arrive before that. AA offers lifetime gold status when you reach 1 million miles in your account from any source (flying, flight bonuses, promotions, credit card miles, booking bonus), and 2MM will give you lifetime Platinum. UA has a similar program at 1MM, but only counts actual flight miles on UA metal.

Ah, yes, from Europe. You probably mean the short way around.

AA makes redemption from the US to NZ/OZ much easier through non-OW redemption partners like Air Pacific and Air Tahiti Nui. But that's the "long way around" from Europe so I don't know that it helps much from there.
