OneWorld Emerald cards
Just received my first of their new cards - with what looks like an emerald flying saucer hovering under our oneworld! Kind of subtle, befitting BA/CX, but conjures up all sorts of possible images. Card came with the letter allowing use of first class lounges, check-in etc. Added was the statement that lounge entry would be through swiping the new card. That may well be an effective way of refusing entry to any who do not have same-day flights, and keeping count of our usage.
Shall edit, rather than post a reply, as arturo's wit should definitely stand at the close of this forum. Each OneWorld airline issues its own card, embossed with the emerald flying saucer. Maybe I am just reporting the antipodean enthusiasm for swiping - in lounges and beyond!

Koala/mgm - I seem to recall seeing card-swipe access in the BA lounge in Jo'burg, where the gold/First lounge leads off the main silver/Club lounge. Access to the main lounge entry was controlled by BA staff, while gold card members could let themselves in and out of the restricted section via a card-swipe/keypad combination.
Sorry about swiping the last word from you, arturo...

Catman, I have to correct you AGAIN! Anything that is BARE has no cover. If you were BARE, you would be nude/naked. The homonyn you are looking for is "BEARS" instead of "bares". Just another reason I won the English Award and you didn't!

Jaws - the mere mention of the word bear on these highflying pages sends shudders running up and down my spine. We koalas have been trying to emphasize that we are koalas, not koala bears! Otherwise we have a real identity problem.
The kangaroo tailed oneworld airline is issuing swipe cards to all its "elite" level FF's, plus members of their Club. So I expect that access for all will soon be governed by whether a green or red light flashes after you swipe your card at the door.

So what's to stop you from sneaking up behind someone who is entering the club? If they are using the card swipe to reduce staffing in the room, it could get ugly.

Stimpy - despite Rudi's suspicions, you are certainly not a Bunyip, you really do exist! We have been looking for you since your 2/2 posting in "United:upgrade coupons" section. Could you email if you have a chance?

Jaws... thank you for the word usage correction. I got three e-mails on this from friends.
I'm wondering if the other airlines will follow OneWorld's lead with swiping cards (like UA?) CATMAN

Catman, in this month's TW bulletin it noted that their location in Dayton was converting to a "self service" location--I gather they are eliminating staffing. I'd bet they are using a swipe system also--it did say that same-day 1st class customers would get a code to enter.
