Multiple thank yous!! This is another wonderful aspect of FT. I debated getting multiple subscriptions, but over came the haze of mileage desire and ordered just one.

Bless you for taking the time to post all of this.

Not a bad deal! Still wish the SPG promo would come back! With transfers to QA, it was really a killer!

Thanks for posting this Cactus Pete. Just signed up. Being relatively new here to FT, does this "Special Triple Miles" offer come around with any frequency (annually)?

If you have a Diners Club card, don't forget that InsideFlyer also has a 3500 Diners point promo that is valid through 8/31. Of course, this is worth only 1750 miles with most airlines, but 3500 BA miles during the summer double miles promotion. Be sure to allow enough time for the IF points to post prior to the BA 2-1 transfer deadline on 8/31.

Am I missing something here? To get approximately 25,000 miles and a free domestic ticket on Delta, you would need to purchase 8 packages @ $59.95 each. (You would then have 24,000 bonus miles and, if you used your Delta Skymiles card, an extra 959.20 points and almost enough for a free award ticket.) So you've spent $479.60 for a free domestic ticket. I don't see that as much of a bargain. Plus you have no additional miles toward elite status. Am I incorrect in my math or my logic?

Yes. It was never suggested that this was an economical way to purchase DL miles to redeem for a domestic coach ticket. It might help in topping off an account or for upgrade purpose, international F class ticket, etc. To each his own. But it certainly helps support Randy's operations and FlyerTalk. And you get Inside Flyer to boot.

If you really wanted to compare buying miles....If you went to Delta's site and bought 15,000 miles (which is the most that you could add to one account) you would pay $412.50 at the going price of $.0275 cents a mile, add the 7.5% excise tax and the $25 handling fee and you have a grand total of $468.43 or just over 3 cents a mile.

On the other hand, if you purchased 5 subscriptions to InsideFlyer for your 15,000 miles - cost of $299.75 you are at 2 cents a mile....I would certainly choose InsideFlyer!

........and of course both ways allow the double miles if you are using your Delta AMEX card as a form of payment.......

I for one have found the InsideFlyer mileage offers very useful for capping off my accounts. I have taken advantage of the Starwood promotion and was very happy with how quickly the points posted to my account. I have also given gift subscriptions to everyone that I know who would benefit from reading InsideFlyer. I will also buy a couple of Delta since I have not flown them in awhile and I have some miles that will expire if I don't have any activity.

So far, cactuspete's argument for supporting Randy and related efforts makes the most sense to me. I agree that it's valuable to support FT type activities to keep alive that which keeps bringing us all back. With all due respect for the other points, to me it makes more sense to make a mileage run (especially with the double base miles Delta promo)for equal or less money and actually go someplace where you might want to visit. (I know that may be mileage run heresy but some of us occasionally do it.) You get base miles, improve elite status and actually go somewhere. I have bought subscriptions in the past to help the cause (and me) but now I think I would take the trips, admittedly somewhat selfishly, and not feel guilty about it. I love Inside Flyer, Randy and, most of all, everything for which FT stands. I also believe that what FT has taught us is that there's nothing wrong with looking for the best deal. With all respect for something "mutually beneficial" (and this is NOT a dig at you know who) I just don't think this is a particularly good deal. I respect those who think it is and attribute our differences to divergent perspectives on this particular issue.

interesting perspecitves here. I guess i only look at it from opne perspective and that is another reader to the cause of miles and points. Having said that and also understand quite well the Mileage Run concept - where and what could I do in spending $59.95 that could earn me more than 3,000 Skymiles? I'm sure I can'y buy a ticket anywhere for $60 and if i could, would it cover 3,000 actual flight miles? When I pay my MCI phone bill for $60 i only get 300 miles totoal. When spending $60 at Home Depot, i only earn 120 miles, etc. I see both the views of upgrader and of Angeleyes (nice user name) and certainly they have different goals as members of this program. I suppose that even someone else may argue you may be missing the point - for instance if you were looking at this as only to enhance your miles, i think many might say that gee, i could purchase 13 subscriptions to InsideFlyer for $780, earn almost 40,000 miles which is enough for an upgrade to BusinessElite on my next trip to Europe and only have to purchase a coach ticket, meaning i would be flying in a seat that would have normally cost me $4,500 to $5,700 for only the $780 plus cost of a coach ticket (maybe $800 for a total of $1580) and also knowing that I would earn base miles for re-qualify Medallion as well as any bonus for status. Like the other members of FlyerTalk who have figured things out, this may have merit, just like Angeleyes and her (sorry, my assumption) looking at topping off her account, etc.

Now, you may think about this - 3,000 Delta miles really converts to 6,000 Hilton HHonors points, so if you are playing these top offs. etc. and 6,000 points at Hilton is good for a free wekend night with Point Stretcher awards or better yet, 50% off of your weekend STAY. Now last time in New York for the weekend, the best rate I could get was $139 per night at the Towers, 50% off the weekend was a savings of $139 from a possible purchase of the $59.95 InsideFlyer offer. There's many ways to look at all this but i hope you will always consider that the magazine itself is not worthless - a reminder that it pays for you to enjoy FlyerTalk, as cactuspete has said.

At the risk of sounding dumber than dirt, how does one convert the Delta to Hilton Hhonors? I'm new at this game and I'm drawing a blank as I've looked around for this option.

Thanks

I also appreciate the fact that there have been a variety of promotions. The Starwoods, Diners and now Delta. Gives you a chance to support InsideFlyer and at the same time get some benefit.

In one of the earlier posts on a separate thread Randy also mentioned that these promotions do cost InsideFlyer a lot. So the real benefit to them is getting the readership. For us, we are able to leverage the bulk buying and special relationships that IF and Randy have developed to offer these deals while enjoying FT and IF.

Thanks, Randy, for the thoughtful response. I surrender! I'm still relatively new at this and I clearly had not considered all the possibilities, including the variety of upgrade opportunities with status mile accrual, the Hilton angle, etc. A slight case of tunnel vision. While I still don't consider it a "must have it" opportunity, I'm now off to WebFlyer for a few subscriptions, passing some of them along to the uninitiated. (Yes, I know I need to read them more carefully myself, given my incomplete thinking to date.) The need to support the FT community and the fact that Randy took the time to respond with cogent points have convinced me that this is a good deal worth doing.
