Hypothetical question . . . EQM's vs. RDM's?
If you were reviewing your mileage statements and found that you were not credited with 6000 RDM's that you earned but yet given 2500 EQM's that you did not earn, would you consider this a fair trade? This is assuming that this was the airline that you fly the most often. How many would still put up a fight to get the 6000 RDM's, knowing that an audit may lead to the discovery of the 2500 "unearned" EQM's that could possibly be rescinded? Or would you just keep quiet about it? Thanks!

I'm in the opposite situation: plenty of RDMs but generally need EQMs, so I'd leave things alone if I was the least bit concerned that I might lose those. Everyone's situation is different on this one. Most, including mine, also vary from year to year. Last year I would have gone for the RDMs, since EQMs were a non-issue, but that would be an unusual year for me. In 2005 I made AA EXP by the skin of my teeth (100,030 miles) with three Dec. 31st flights - the extra EQMs would have been most welcome earlier on!

Simple Question:
Will 2,500 EQMs make a difference (status wise) at the end of the year given your projected travels?
If yes, then keep the EQMs. If no, then correct the record and make sure you get the RDMs.
Most airlines give you 6 months to retroactively claim miles, so you probably have some time before you need to make this decision.

If you are a 1P or 1K on UA, then every BIS mile translates to 1 EQM and 2 or more RDM. (online checkin bonus, 500-milers, credit card miles) So when earning 2.5K EQM, would also be at least 5K RDM to the good also. And unless you have more than enough EQM for status purposes and Elite Choices, then those 2.5K EQM is, IMHO, worth substantially more than 6K of RDM, which can be accumulated in more and easier ways than can EQM be acquired.

Thanks for all of your replies everyone. Yes, the EQM's were "accidentally" awarded twice on my account, and were certainly not part of a promo, such as the one US had until the end of Jan (double EQM's on selected routes). I'm pretty good about knowing where the miles are coming from. IAHflyer, the miles will most likely help me eke out status when all is said and done at the end of 2007, so I'll just keep quiet
. . . . Efrem that sounds like a hectic New Year's Eve!
