Manner of Requalification - survey
I am curious as to whether people at the highest level of airline status based upon miles, not segments, are more likely to hit hotel status by stays, not nights. I have always qualified in the respective airline program by miles flown, never segments, and hotels by stays, never by nights. If you qualify by both miles/segments AND stays/nights, I'm interested in that too. Here goes.
UA - 1K - Miles
AS - MVP Gold (comped but will requal as Gold with miles, and MVP or Gold in the past with miles)
SPG - Platinum - Stays
HHonors - Gold (extended) - Stays
UA - 1K - Miles
AS - MVP Gold (comped but will requal as Gold with miles, and MVP or Gold in the past with miles)
SPG - Platinum - Stays
HHonors - Gold (extended) - Stays

CX Diamond - achievement was by sectors, first and soon second renewals by miles.
SPG Platinum - the last couple of years by nights first but also by stays. This year it is going to be hard either way

CO - Platinum -
2002 - miles (75,998 and still counting)
2001 - segments and miles (78,993 and 114 Segments)
Hilton - Diamond -
2002 - stays - due to double stay credit.
2001 - stays and nights. I ended the year with a 135 nights
Starwood - Platinum -
2002 - may only make Gold since I have been working in the UK last couple of months and there are no Starwood or Hiltons in the area. Status depends on a new assignment for the second half of the year.
2001 - stays - I didn't join Starwood till July of 2001 and they weren't as convenient to my clients so I had to do some creative staying last year to qualify. (I was comped to Platinum when I joined, but I did earn it by the end of the year)

I always qualify on my airline status by segments, though this year I will qualify for absolutely NOTHING since I'm driving to my destinations rather than flying (flying is just too much of a hassle).
I have already re-qualified (after an initial comp) for Starwood Platinum based on nights, and will probably either make either Hilton Diamond or Marriott Platinum again based on nights, too.
Curious enough this year I might end up having top tier status at three major chains -- Marriott (already have), Starwood (already have) and Hilton (might earn), with only ONE paid flight roundtrip the whole YEAR. Just two years ago I flew 145 segments in one year. What a difference a recession can make

Segments on UA for 1P, tho will make that on miles this year as well. No real incentive to get to 1k any more. Comp AA plat and AS Gold hanging in there a few flights each prob won't requal I asked for the comps the week before my fulltime job got whacked. ;(
No longer any hotel stays, zero this and last year so back to entry level with most all hotel programs.
