switching telecom partners...
How quickly/often can you switch telecom partners and come around full circle?
My 6-months w/ AT&T is coming up to an end. I've earned 6,000 CO OnePass miles for just signing up for LD service, for which my bill is minimal.
From a pure miles perspective, there's no real reason for me to stay w/ AT&T. The 5 miles/dollar isn't that much for me... So, I'm on the prowl for another program. I'm looking to top-off my orphan NW account to at least get enough for an upgrade on CO. NW now has a (poor) deal w/ MCI to earn 2,000 miles for 2-months of LD service.
OK, so once that is done, assuming that the promo is still running, can I go back to AT&T for another 6,000 miles?
I've read the Terms and Conditions, but they do not seem to address the issue of "one time only" or "once per year" or "once per account", etc... this leads me to wonder if I could switch providers for a week, or a day and then go back...
any thoughts?

I regularly filp-flop between MCI and AT&T. With MCI, you can usually get 10K miles over 6 months with 5K during the 1st month. Since the initial 5K is the best pop of the promotion, it's okay to switch any time after it deposits. However, I've found that competing (cash) offers from AT&T usually don't arrive until month 4 or 5 -- perfect timing! I have another line that is married to Sprint for the next 11 months because I'm in the middle of the 40K promo for NW. Hope that helps.

I switch often as well, and in the case of MCI, you can count on a call within 2 weeks of switching away, asking to have you back. Do not settle for less than 5k (up front) to accept a switch back. Downside: you will probably have to fight for getting the miles posted with MCI, but eventually you'll get it.

I'm getting 10K UA miles from MCI (have received 6K so far) on a no fee, no minimum plan. I have found that you can ask for any available plan when switching even when the promo suggests a particular one. My plan is:

I have switched from AT&T to MCI and vise-versa.
The biggest Problem: I always got (small) bills debited to my credit card. The reason: I still had a service which was not automatically cancelled (800-service, lokal toll etc.).
Now I always ask the "old" company to cancel any and all services I have with them! By phone AND by e-mail.

On MCI, by default they will sign you up for a plan that has a $3.95 monthly fee. You can ask them to switch you to a no-fee plan, but it will have a$.40/call connection fee. I'm fine with that because I use onesuite.com for my longdistance.
