BD or VS miles. Please advise...
guys,
have a question. Need some clarification as well.
I'm going to India in december and the ticket is issued by VS.
from jfk to lhr is on VS metal with N booking (i'll get 50% miles)
from lhr to bom is on VS metal with W booking (i'll get 150% miles)
from bom to lhr is on BD metal with Economy booking (100% miles)
from lhr to jfk is on VS metal with N booking (50% miles).
Now originally I was booked on BD E+, (therefore the triple miles applied). Now Virgin has rebooked me on VS Premium Economy. Don't konw if I can still get triple miles or not.
But, I'll try to upgrade to Premium Economy if the price is good enough at check-in. If you were in my shoes, which frequent flyer account would you open? I have United right now, and can only use it on the BD leg. I don't have a BD or a VS account yet and didn't feel like opening up a new one until I have done some research. So please advise me what to do.
If you were in my shoes, what would you do?
Thank You for your replies...

If the BD leg was originally booked on BD with a BD flight number before the flight was cancelled, they will give you the miles for it.
Bombay to Heathrow is about 4,000 miles. With the triple miles you would have c12,000 BD miles. 12,500 miles would get you a ONE-WAY economy flight from the US to Europe on 'cash and miles' (12,500 miles + 70 + tax). If you can credit a few Hilton stays to BD (1,000 miles per night, max 3k per stay) then you will soon hit 18,750 miles which is a one-way BUSINESS CLASS flight from North America to Europe.
I don't know the VS scheme at all, but its worth working out if you'll have enough miles for a one-way ticket from the UK to the US. If so, you may be able to swing it so you will have enough for a return flight, using BD miles one-way and VS the other way.
(PS. You SHOULD be able to double-dip on the 'BD now moved to VS' leg - BD will give you the triple miles because you were originally booked with them, whilst VS should also give you the mileage!)

Also, you failed to add the 1.5x I will get for the LHR-BOM Mileage. If they let me doubledip. Then it will be icing. However, do you even think they will let me since VS issued the ticket?

If you were booked on a BD flight with a BD flight number (not a codeshare) and you have now been moved against your will (due to the cancellation of the BMI flights) to VS, then BMI will give you the miles. This has been confirmed by the BMI lurker on FT.
You can easily double-dip by crediting the same leg to a VS account. However, for safety, you may want to remove your Flying Club number from the booking before taking that leg, so BD doesn't see it when you claim your miles from them. You can then retroactively claim your miles from VS.
Note that there is no point in crediting all your VS legs to BMI, as N class Virgin flights credited to BD earn NO miles if they are for transatlantic flights, according to my little guide. You COULD credit your LHR-BOM VS leg to BMI, earning 1.5 x miles. This would probably get to the 18,750 miles you need in BMI for a one-way UK - Europe redemption in business.

I think that's what I will do. I will credit the JFK-LHR flight to VS. (although I'm trying to upgrade to Premium Economy right now) and if that happens, then BD will give me 1.5x the miles from JFK-LHR. If that happens, then I can also credit the LHR-BOM segment on BD, thus earning 1.5x + 3x miles due to the promotion. The return leg is still listed as BD metal so I'll earn 100% on that as well. I will try to upgrade my last leg to PE as well (would be at LHR before boarding) and if that happens, will credit that to BD as well. I will do this only and if only I can get upgraded to PE. Otherwise I'll just credit those 'N' fared flights to VS. But I think VS will give 50% of the actualy mileage flown as well. I can only earn 100% miles on N class if I use Continental OnePass.
I have to yet to open up the BD Freq. Flyer Acct. or the VS acct. I just don't want to keep opening accounts... That's why I posted here
