I'm new to the board, and this may be a very simple question but I'm a little short on miles to get a free ticket(and the price is really high right now). what's the easiest way to either buy more miles or transfer miles from one carrier to another. Maybe there's a website out there that does this?

You need to give more info such as what airlines do you have miles in, for which airline do you need the miles and whats the timing for your trip?
Transferring from one airline to another is usually not desirable because of the loss of miles in getting laundered through a third party such as Hilton Honors.
Look at what points you already have in hotel programs, Amex rewards, DC, etc. that can be transferred. You could join a dining program (Idine) for your airline program, and eat out a lot. Or, sign up for a miles earning credit card.
