I prefer to leave it to the discretion of the pilot. They're the ones with the experience & responsibility. Having good ID and being belligerent should not change the authority of the pilot. AA did the right thing.

That agent could have activated the emergency procedure and took over the plane. He could evict the pilot and brought in new one to fly for the interest of "national security". So pilot likes to show off his authority, eh? Let's see who has more authority / power here.
He didn't. He acted professionally even during time of stress. He was well trained. So stop blaming the agent... he didn't make a scene, the pilot did! |

A pilot who removed an Arab-American Secret Service agent from his plane Christmas Day says in an internal airline report that he "acted in the best interest" of his crew, and that he intends to file a complaint against the agent for misconduct. The Secret Service agent has alleged the removal was a case of racial profiling. He has retained an attorney, who told CNN Wednesday that the agent will decide how to proceed soon. |
Having read the entire thread on pprune.com, I can report that the level of discourse there is no higher than here. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I know that a lot of people here want to crucify the pilot, but the CNN article mentioned above does indicate a number of Red Flags which justify the pilot's actions:
"When the passenger returned, the pilot decided to review the paperwork required by law enforcement officials who carry weapons onto planes. "The form was unreadable because it was a carbon-copy and there were missing items," the pilot said. "I then had the agent come back and re-check his credentials" and fill out a new form, the pilot said, but the new form was "filled out improperly." The passenger "appeared nervous and anxious," the pilot said. The pilot said that as he tried to verify the Secret Service agent's credentials, the agent "became very hostile." "In the interim, I was given a third improperly filled out (form). This had no signature of the (law enforcement officer), no phone number." " It appears the agent was being a ***** and met up with another one. |

What is the job description of a secret service agent?
Select one true answer: a) Make healines for himself. b) Make the President of the US defend him. c) Protect the President with his body. d) Stay in the back ground. Anybody can explain why a secret agent who does a good job need to hire a lawyer? Have a safe trip all of you. |

You really should have (not should of) caught these when you edited your post the first time. Or maybe you should just give the spelling flames a rest. |
Pilot acted in 'best interest' in removing agent
Secret Service agent alleges he was victim of racial profiling http://www.cnn.com/2002/LAW/01/02/ge...ing/index.html |
Judges, jurys, disciplinary boards and other formal process hearings have difficult times making accurate determinations of fault - even when presented first hand information.
My resolution for this year is not to "convict" anyone by internet jury and to encourage the process to investigate and determine the appropriate level of disciplinary action. Happy New Year. |
CBS Radio reports that the agent and his lawyer will hold a press conference in about 45 minutes (about noon Eastern time).

Well, the agent's job (or at least his current job assignment) is toast. Someone in his position should not be off running to advocacy groups, hiring lawyers, and holding press conferences.
In addition to being bounced by the court system when he files his frivilous complaint, if not outright canned, he'll probably be reassigned to the Idaho office to run down counterfeiters or whatever. |
