Travel to Cameroon in June or July
My Son would like to visit his girl friend, who he has not seen for the past year since she has been in the Peace Corps in Douala (DLA). Would like to use freq flyer award and stay for three weeks. Air France seems to have one flight each day from CDG. Itinerary could begin in midwest, NYC or Balt-Wash. I have 85,000 miles with Delta, and need 100,000. Two questions: 1) should I buy the 15,000 miles from www.miles4sale ($539) or pay part of the trip in cash? 2) Few award seats are available...any suggestions on how to get one?

I would check availability of award tix before buying miles, of course.
And lots of times award tix aren't released too far in advance.
Perhaps you can snag a coach ticket from one of the international consolidators?

dstkd,
Another option would be to buy a cheap coach ticket to CDG and use your miles for an award from france to cameroon on Air France for 70,000 miles.

I'd pay cash for the transatlantic part and if the airplane is A330 or A340 use an AF economy reward from CDG to DLA or NSI.
Econo is OK with larger planes on AF. A300/310 series to Cameroon suck for space in econo and I'd try to use the extra miles saved from not using them on the trans-Atlantic for a business class ticket on AF from CDG to Cameroon if they use that type of aircraft when your son flies.
