OMNI: Baobab = Disney

During my time at the new Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando in January, I kept having mental flashes of flyertalk. I figured it was because I had rec'd so much good advice here. But, sitting down with my kids over the weekend to watch Lion King II, Simba's Pride, I realized the connection: the Baobab tree is featured prominantly in the movie, AND is the centerpiece at D's AK!! In fact, a (plaster) Baobab is the center of that park the way Cinderella's castle is the centerpiece of the Magic Kingdom!

They also feature some live baobabs on the "safari adventure" ride at the park. Truly majestic trees, but how does it feel, Baobab, to have your handle co-opted by the Evil Eisner Empire???

OMNI POSTING: There is also a Baobab tree as the centerpiece of the Tony award winning set design for the MUSICAL/Broadway version of "The Lion King."

The kids love the colors and scenery. The parents love the show because it's so G rated and even entertaining (although you know the story.)

It's amazing how the actors can become trees and Lions and other animals in this show. One of the best on Broadway in years!

So Baobab is in Florida, on Broadway, in the movies... and of course on FLyerTalk!

KUDOS from teh CatCOps to Matt for correctly
noting this as OMNI. CATMAN

Matt, baobab is everywhere - but the real question is, has the evil Eisner empire stolen my identity? If so (if baobab reappears wearing Mickey Mouse ears), there will be war!

Still, I think I'm the coolest tree around...

Yes, but according to our safari guide, the baobab only bears leaves for 1 month/year. Hmmm...what does this mean about OUR baobab???

It means that I have a deep and satisfying inner life, and that I am not overdependent on the outside world for sustenance.

In times of drought, the baobab is the only resource that remains...

The baobabs at Disney's Animal Kingdom are pretty spiffy looking, but they pale in comparison to the real thing. In Botswana, I once had a bush breakfast under the limbs of an immense, 2000-year-old baobab. Quite memorable, and a good handle, too.
