Looking for same alliance partner for US Air & United?
I'm new to this post. I've been searching for a way to combine 100,000 miles from US Air and 80,000 United. The only thing I could come up is to see if both airlines have a common alliance partner that I could then transfer the mileage too. So far, I've not found one.
I want to book business class awards for Europe (80,000 miles each) for my kids on their honeymoon.
The only other solution I could think of is finding the fastest way of earning 60,000 miles in US Air between now and May 2002.
Any other suggestions please?

Sorry to tell you, but an alliance partner will not help you since they do not allow you to combine miles from diffrent programs. They only let you earn miles while traveling on the partner's airline.
The only way I know of trasfering miles is via an hotel program (e.g. Hilton) but this will "cost" you a great deal of miles.
Best bet is to try to get the 60,000 miles on US. You might want to get a US credit card (I it is from Bank of America). Unless you'll use it a great deal before May you will also need to fly some. Try to look for a mileage run before 12/15 so that you can earn double miles.
Good luck,

Actually, an alliance partner is exactly what is needed. It's not really "transferring" miles, but just getting two tickets on the same carrier, one using US and one using UA.
Unfortunately, I don't believe that US and UA have any common partners.
Your best bet may be to buy two upgradeable coach class tickets and then upgrade them with miles, probably easier than trying to earn 60K miles on US between now and then.

AAdvantage - American Airlines
Aeroplan - Air Canada
FlightFund - America West Airlines
Frequent Flyer - Midwest Express Airlines
Mileage Plan - Alaska Airlines
You can shift between each of them.
They are supposed to add more partners, but who knows??

Thanks for all your help. Yes, we have 100,000 USAir miles plus 80,000 UA miles but the problem is it would silly to buy the kids seperate business class tickets on their honeymoon.
Some people suggested that I just buy points from AMEX (20,000 per month) or buy USiar miles in addition to what we have; either one is a good option (cheaper at AMEX I think); the other option is to buy the cheapest upgradeable tickets and use the mileage to upgrade to business class.
It's not a perfect world but one has to try.
