Question Changes to award levels

Does anyone know when most airline companies changed their award levels from 40,000 to 50,000? I heard that it happened sometime post 9/11

I've always remembered the "unrestricted" awards to be double - 25K/50K, 35K/70K, 40K/80K, etc... - I don't remember an increase from 40K to 50K.

Unless you're referring to the increase of the "normal" award many years ago from 20K to 25K.

There also seems to be a hidden increase going on, which is worse than this. It used to be possible to get "regular" awards most of the time, with double-mileage ones needed just for last-minute flights on popular routes at popular times. Recently it seems needing double miles has become more common, if not the norm, because the airlines seem to have cut back on the availability of the less expensive kind.

Is that just me, or has anyone else seen the same thing?

Considering you cross posted this in 6 different forums, I'm going to close it here.
