This reasoning is such bull stars.
Shootings - ever hear of gun controls, police buying back guns, gun registration, etc?
Robberies - Community partols, alarm systems, security doormen, dogs, etc
Car Accidents - Aribags, mandatory seat belt use, side impact bars, roll over cages, speed limits, drunk driving laws, etc?
Rape - Megans Law, free cell phones, rape kits in hospitals, tougher jail penalties, Neighborhood patrols, etc
Each of these things are having things done to prevent them. The argument that people use saying you have a better chance of dying in <<insert name of incident here>> then flying is so annoying and insulting to anybody with any intelligence.
When something is identified as a possible cause, be it for anything, then it's reasonable to remove it. Not every drunk driver kills people, so why should we bother checking for them on a Saturday evening? Just let them go because the odds, using your logic, is that there are many more drunk drivers out there not getting into accidents then those who are, so why waste the time?
Why bother doing reasearch on any other disease then Cancer or Heart Attacks, since the odds are better you will get one of those? Why pay for insurance since the odds are you probably won't need it? I average one car accident every seven or so years, so why bother wearing a seat belt? Why vaccinate for diseases that haven't been in this country for decades? Why not run with scissors, I don't know anybody who has ever been injured with them? Why have life jackets on cruise ships, it's been so many years since one went down?
You can't use statistics to compare two unrelated items. Yes people get raped, and yes there are car accidents, but that has nothing to do with people boarding airplanes with weapons. It's not acceptable to not do whatever is necessary to prevent it from happening again, no matter how many people were killed or injured.
