Not sure if you earn BA points (do not think so) but you can fly BA Concorde most times to stunning destinations for a fraction of $4,999 -

I am waiting for the newer SUBsonic planes.
Hope they are still in development.

You mean like Boeing's sonic cruiser? I would like to fly on one of those. It's as close as I'll ever get to the B-2 -- got the same kind of flying wing design!

What with all the cheap fares and the bonus points going at the moment I dare say that one would come out ahead doing mileage runs and then flying the concord using points. I am assuming that anyone willing to pay $4,999 soley to fly on the concord (rather than the very few who truely need to) loves flying so much they will also love doing all the mileage runs

I booked a Concorde award trip yesterday using British Air miles:

LAX-JFK (AA in F on 3 class aircraft); JFK-LHR (Concorde); LHR-Singapore (BA in F) [stopover]; SIN-SYD (BA in F) [destination];
SYD-BKK (BA in F) [stopover]; BKK-LHR (BA in F); LHR-JFK (Concorde); JFK-LAX (AA in F on 3 class aircraft.

175,000 miles. I think this is the greatest award presently available.

Always Flyn:

So you're going "the wrong way" to SYD, I see. There is also another "going the wrong way" journey possible with CX using AA miles.

For ~140k (can't remember the exact figure) you can fly from any US city, through HKG, to either Johannesburg or Istanbul (both about 10-12 hours from HKG) in CX First Class. I needn't say anything about CX FC, and it's one heck of a lot of flying for 140k miles.

Always Flyin,

Wow. I've looked into using miles for the concorde before and it's 200,000 just for JFK->LHR and back through AF partners Delta and Continental. How'd you get such a great deal?!

Thx.

It's a published British Air award. I thought it was the Concorde only one way. When I booked it, I learned you can fly both ways on the Concorde.

I haven't flown BA in 12 years. So how did I get so many BA miles? Diners Club. Once a year they run a double miles offer to transfer points to BA. You can also transfer UA, AA, and DL miles to Diners Club and then straight across into BA during the 2 for 1 period. If I like BA, it won't be much of a stretch for me to swap my business from UA to BA.

If anyone is interested in getting a Diner's Club account, send me an e-mail and I'll give you further details. You can also get 24,000 BA miles out of it, and the referral won't hurt me either!

I did the CX FC trip from IAD-LAX-HGK-BNE last summer. Best use of 140,000 miles I can think of.

Hey guys,
I checked some dates on the BA site, and this is what I found: while the offer rules state that travel much be completed by Jan. 31, I found that if the outbound date is Jan. 31 or earlier but the return is after Jan. 31, flights still price at the $4999 fare.

I experimented with different return dates through Oct. 1, 2002-- about as far out as BA's res system goes now. All priced at $4999 plus tax = $5082 and change.

So you know, the official BA word is at http://www.britishairways.com/regional/usa/offers
