747s to Hawaii

I will be traveling to Hawaii this summer with my family and I want to fly there on a 747. My kids have never been on a 747. I am having a hard time finding any airline that flys 747s to Hawaii. I will be leaving out of Los Angeles. Any suggestions?

The only 747 flights from North America to Hawaii I am aware of are on Air Pacific (FJ) from Vancouver, B.C. And then, of course, there are plenty of 747s trevelling to Hawaii from Japan.

Welcome to Ft, chgilpin
Sorry that you were not around to fly to Hawaii in the 70's and 80's when we flew so many 747's to Hawaii..it was the grand time of flights to HI...piano lounges upstairs, carved roast-beef at tableside and if on an early-morning flight, a great deli-buffet. Honestly, don't know which airline now flies to Hawaii and, if so, even if you find a 747 it is more likely to be a flight originating in Asia and connectng in HI. Try and focus on your trip and not the transportation...
Your kids will love Hawaii and will always remember their trip to the islands. The flight will be forgotten (unless they were around in the 70's )

Sorry, but the only carriers flying from LAX-HNL are (along with the aircraft they operate):

Northwest - 757-300
Continental - 767-400
Delta - 767-400
Hawaiian - 767-300
American - 757-200 / 767-300
United - 757-200 / 767-300
ATA - 737s / 757-200s

A quick sweep of the schedules doesn't even show 777s operating on this route. Unless you wanted to take a turn to NRT, I think you'll be a bit SOL on flying a 767 to HNL, unfortunately.

Just curious, why are you set on a 747? What sets them apart from the other large planes these days?

It has an upstairs.

After all these years of flying, I finally flew a 747 last year. Nothing special, but it was neat to look up and see more seats above us.

Welcome to Flyertalk chgilpin,

As your question as been answered, and this really doesn't have anything to with miles or points, I'm going to close this here.

Regards,
