Would I fight a hijacker?

Just Bring it Jabroni!

Since my parents survived a major plane crash (UA 173 @ PDX in 1978) I've always run the worst case scenario of an airplane flight through my head before stepping on a plane, because I don't have the attitude that it "won't happen to me." So when I'm in an exit row, I run the procedure of crash landing, opening the exit, getting out and getting away from the plane. If I'm not in an exit, I run the procedure of surviving impact and getting to the exit through smoke and over debris through my head. I think about potential hijackers, which before Sept. 11th would be to wait it out and see what they want. But now, I think my procedure will be different.

Possible scenarios for confronting the hijacker: facing him, behind him, or next to him in a seat. Facing him I think I'd kick him in the balls and the tackle him to get him on the ground. Hopefully he'll have dropped any weapons he had in his hands, otherwise I'd try to get those away. Then while he's on the ground I'd stomp on his face and neck.

From behind him I'd try to get him on the ground by tripping him by pushing him over my foot, or by tackling him. If I'm the laying on top of him I'd bang his head on the floor. Standing up I'd stomp on his hands (to get rid of any weapons) and then the back of his head and neck.

From my seat I'd hope that he doesn't notice me as he walks by and then I'd have a foot in the aisle and push him over it, and the the usual stomping on his head.

I've also thought about using my housekeys as a weapon in a situation like this once the hijacker is somewhat subdued.

I also think that if I got him unconscious I'd straddle the aisle and stand on the armrests and then jump on his head one last time. I think that 235 lbs. of mass landing on ones head would be fairly painful.

Anyway, I have no hand to hand combat, martial arts or any other fighting experiences, so feel free to suggest any other ways to subdue a potential terroist.

I think the only question is whether you leave one alive to be questioned.

If larsk3 is one of the flight crew on my flight, definitely.

With all the macho BS to the side...If any future plane I'm on ever got hijacked, you wouldn't need a sky marshall on board, because id fight every last hijacker on that plane to my last drop of blood!

At 6'4, 230lbs...those idiots would find out real quick what the stars and stripes mean to the USA. Funny thing is, I'm not a violent man & dislike aggressive type of people...but god "I love this country", and no way in he** that would get very far on my flight.

I guess we would all use our heads before taking them out, but if after some thought...and it looked like there was no other choice, but to fight. Then, absolutely they'd get their "Holy War" at 35,000 feet! Hopefully there would be somebody on board to fly the plane safely home... Love, Peace & Prayers to all our beloved Americans who perished...

PlayHard out....

Outside of getting beat up by my brother a lot when I was growing up, I don't have much experience with fighting so I've been thinking about how I might go about this. I've decided my new travel wardrobe will include spike heels (think Single White Female) and a belt with one of those Texas-sized belt buckles.

I may fight like a girl, but you can bet I'm gonna fight.

Like many have posted, before 9/11 I would have just sat back and tried to get through the crazy experience as best as possible. Having seen what the goal was there is no question at all that I would fight.

Conventional hickjackings ended on September 10.

I, for one, will not follow that company policy in the future should my aircraft be hijacked. I will muster as many able bodied passengers as I am able to rush the hijackers, using anything at my disposal, including and not limited to:

metal oven racks
hot coffee and the metal coffee pots
halon fire extinguishers (discharged to the face)
seat cushions as defensive item
O2 (oxygen) bottles as weapons
full size wine bottles as weapons
serving carts as blocking items
luggage as weapons and blocking items.

There are many offensive and defensive weapons onboard a plane. Put your MacGyver hats on and do something about it. This is a whole new ball game with different rules. Every able bodied male passenger should request an aisle seat to give you better access and mobility in the event of such a crisis.

OK, I have waited long enough to reply.

Even though I'm a lover and not a fighter, if anyone ever tried to hijack a flight I was on, they would have to deal with chexfan#1 (left fist), chexfan#2 (right fist), and anything else that could be used to aid in a terrorists' physical demise!

Leading up to 9/11 and the increase of "air Rage", while getting on a plane I would always look around the cabins to see who could join me in subdueing an enraged pax. Now, I could care less about Air Rage but I still look for allies.
