If we sit and cower on the ground, then the terrorists have achieved their goal! I have a trip planned on Sunday to MSY thru ORD and I plan on going if UA is flying. I figure that it will probably be safer than my drive to Portland on Thursday, especially since I have to drive past two major military installations on alert.

I'm going to SFO on business on 9/24, I have an ONT-BDL mileage run scheduled on 9/28, and a vacation in SIN on 10/6. I'm not cancelling any of them! As far as I'm concerned, flying is still safer than driving (especially driving on the streets of Los Angeles)

Why not fly this week?

Because my 12 year old daughter asked me not to..

That's why not!

No business trip or job in the world is more important than family

I am booked to fly on a cheapo ticket EDI-FRA-NYC on LH on Friday.

LH are saying no refund unless they cancel.

I was only going to New York for the weekend.

Have to decide if we go to bombed out Manhatten as tourists for the weekend or lose the money for the flighrs.

Stephen

I am not booked on a flight until next month, but I don't have any reservations about flying.

Yes, I would ands did, although it was a euro flight the sentiment on board was quieter than usual and it was clear everyone was stunned by the situation.

I'm scheduled to fly tomorrow EWR-LGW, then LHR-STO on Sat. The continued closing of the airport and/or the need for me to be at my desk in NYC would be the only things keeping me from flying.

Had a ticket MIA-LIM (Lima, Peru) for Tuesday night, coming back Friday night. Called AA and dropped the trip, not from fear, but doesn't make sense to go for only one day.
Plus I am hoping one more person to/from Lima can now get home, as I know both flights were overbooked (before yesterday at least).

If I were really a turd, I would ask AA to re-accomodate me, then ask for a voluntary bump at the gate. Wonder if that is going to happen Wed/Thurs/Fri?

I am fortunate for many reasons:
1. I did not personally lose anyone in the tragedy. As a nation, we all lost something yesterday, but that is a different discussion.
2. I was able to spend last night at home, with all my family, including my 2 yr old and 6 week old sons.
3. I was not stuck in an airport with at least a two day wait to get home. I feel for you guys.

Count your blessings, and pray for those who were lost.

Scott

I was suppose to fly out last night, I am now camped out at a hyatt until I can get home. I have a friend who was on the united flight that crashed into the pentagon--I would REALLY prefer not to fly right now. The car rental companies in IND have waiting lists 100's long and I NEED to get home and just hold my 18 month old. I would be glad to give all my FF just to be home with my family right now.

To answer the question is that I will be on a plane as soon as I can--just to get home to my family. I will be rethinking the 4 transatlantic flights that I have in the next 3 months and will be doing only essential business trips instead of "we would like you to be there" business trips.

I do appreciate the folks who are considerate of those of us who just want to get home and would give up their seats.

A lot more people were killed at work yesterday than in the four planes. I guess we could ask, "Are you going to work today?"

My take...sort of like some others. If I were leaving home today on a non-essential flight I would think seriously about staying home. However, if I were trying to get back home I would not hesitate to fly.

My next flight is Sept. 22 and I feel sure I will be on it.

I stongly agree with Hunki. There's no freaking way I'm going to let these terrorists terrorize me.

The only fear of flying that ought to come out of this is the fear by those responsible of the flight of the tomohawk missile that will eventually drive right up their a**.

SNA-

I think it's my duty as an American and a World Citizen to fly.

This is a war. And if this attack sends you running into a hole, well, they have defeated you. Their goal is to create fear and terror. Way to give into them.

Do what you like- this is after all America, and it's your freedom to do so. But if you are going to call me and others idiots, I'll tell you that I think anyone who doesn't fly is a coward.

Have a safe trip home. Maybe after I and others are "canaries in coal mines", you'll feel safe to get on a plane again.

Don't thank us. It's our pleasure.

I'm scheduled to fly on Friday and if the plane goes, I'll be on it. I agree with the posts above that if we ground ourselves, we've let the pigs win. And, as I looked down Fifth Avenue yesterday and saw the smoke, I thought I was pretty lucky to be working in midtown. Having said all that, I think I'll be more than a little on edge if we go.

If my flight leaves at 8pm tonight, I'll probably be on it.

If not, I've already made a reservation for a sleeper room on a 26 hour amtrak trip leaving Thursday afternoon.

No one has ever stopped me from getting on a flight with a leatherman knife or a Toollogic knife. We ALL know how Stupid airport security is in the US (how many times have we commented about how they make us make our beepers beep or PC's show a screen - as if a terrorist couldnt figure out a way to have a hidden bomb do that).

We are looking at a return to the days of skymarshals, airport security like they have in Israel, and never feeling safe in the air again.

Also, maybe now, the airport security worker will make more than minimum wage.
