Death and Points. What happens to them???

When my partner (in life as well as business) died a couple of years ago. I was able to transfer all of his Northwest miles into my account with a copy of his death certificate and a copy of the legal form saying that I was his "personal represetative" (executor). They said that they would transfer the miles to any direct (near) relative or to the personal resentative. There was no cost involved and it was handled very quickly and professionally. We were both silver elites at the time.

I recently had my Uncle's NW points transferred to my account. (I said I was his stepson.) My aunt needed to sign an affadavit and I needed an affadavit from the estates Personal Rep. Also enclosed Death certificat. NW was very efficient.
United Charges $75 for a transfer. This made the transfer cost ineffective for me.
Delta was just like NW. Very Helpful!

With Aadvantage miles when dealing with a deceased account member an affidavit is sent to whoever is the executor of the estate. If there is more than one heir stated in the will this affidavit must be signed by all parties. The miles will be distributed as stated in the will. If an individual named in the will does not have an aadvantage account one will be opened for them. AA requires a copy of the death certificate, a copy of the will showing who the executor is, the signed affidavit, and a transfer fee of $50. Usually transfers take 3 to 4 weeks upon receipt of all of the documentation. Hope this helps.

United promptly transferred the miles of Law Lord Sr. after his death to Mrs. Law Lord Sr. I provided a copy of his death certificate and Mom's frequent flyer number, and sent a $75 check for the transfer fee. Mom had given his 150,000 Original Program miles no thought and when I explained the present that I had given her she was so pleased that she upgraded me on a RT to London.
