For those who do not know Avon is the town below the base of Beaver Creek. It is 15 miles west of Vail, CO. Your best bet for info is probably http://www.vail.net/

The Hyatt Beaver Creek inside the gates is quite nice and well-situated near the base lodge of the ski area. Beano's Cabin -- halfway up the mountain by hay wagon in the summer and snowcat in the winter -- is my favorite restaurant.

the regular (every 30') running bus-connection Vail - Beaver Creek has a stop at a large Avon Motel (with an alpine outfit) - I don't recall the name of the Motel.
From that stop it is about 8 bus minutes up the mountain to the Beaver Creek Base station.
And early season skiing in Beaver Creek, often just starting the weekend before Thanksgiving is often perfect (and no queing at the lifts), even if there is not plenty of snow (sometimes) because of extensive artificial snowing capabilities.
In Vail, the (deep powder) Back-Bowls, in the last 10 years, were only open twice for skiing before december.
