travel methods for TPA-MCO
Is there a train or oneway car rental that will allow me to travel between these two airports - there is only one direct flight and it leaves to early

Train? Train? This is the US, mate. We don't believe in public transportation. :-)
I don't think the railroad runs that way, no. Checking on Amtrak's site, it insists that you'd need to take one of their busses along the route -- and that it would take over 3 and a half hours.
To check on trains (or in this case, Amtrak busses): http://lb.amtrak.com/
To check on Greyhound busses: http://www.greyhound.com
Greyhound seems to have a number of direct busses that take 2-3 hours. US bus stations are invariably in the worst part of town.
There are probably private company options available, but I haven't lived down south for years, so I don't know them.

Be sure to check National Car Rental for this trip. They are usually the best for within-Florida one way rentals about not having a drop charge.
And . . . you are a few years early for the proposed high speed train from MCO to TPA. This stretch is seriously overburdened with car traffic and is receiving consideration as the first leg of an intra-Florida rail network.

there is no drop charge for all the major car rental cos. between TPA and MCO airports. There -may- be between suburban locations in each city. It would be silly to do anything but drive between the two.

I've found it's often less expensive to pickup a National car in TPA and drop it at MCO (or vice versa) than it is to pick up and return to the same (MCO or TPA) city. The same is true for TPA or MCO to MIA. I recently spent a week at WDW and then dropped the car at MIA before boarding a cruise ship. The rate was less than returning the car to the pick up location.

Sedatives - Check
Upgrade to VS Upper Class as for away from bassinetts as is possibly without flying the aircraft - double check

Driving between TPA and MCO is fast and easy. Avoid rushhours as the construction on I-4 can be annoying.
