Thanks.
Never used PayDirect, but I know that PayPal shows transactions as charges rather than cash advances.

The PayPal fee for accepting a credit card transaction (2.9 percent plus 30 cents per transaction) makes it cost-ineffective to do purely for the miles.

Thank you for your information. Unfortunately, they don't accept AMEX. Wanna earn some points before their close

does that mean we can still send $1000 on say an AAdvantage credit card and earn miles? would it post as a charge and not as a cash advance?

Too late :(

It looks like they stopped the ability to earn free miles some time ago, from text such as the following:

"eCheck Express payments can be accepted by all Personal accounts with no fees. Credit card payments are only accepted by Professional accounts."

and also:

"Effective June 1, 2004, For Professional accounts we are charging a monthly fee of $5 dollars. However, the per transaction processing fee of 2.5% plus $.30 for every transaction received into your account. Will change to 2.4% plus $.30 cents. We automatically calculate and display these transaction fees before you receive the money, so you'll always know the cost in advance."

although all good things do come to an end, at least this may be a much cheaper way to get 1000 miles into your account that having to pay the airline $30 to buy them.
Why do marketers CARE that we get miles and then make up fees to make us have to pay for them like in paydirect?
Because they suck.

anyway, it would have gone on longer had people been smart enough to only promote a 3 way transfer... you to brother, brother to sistser, sister to you... something like that.

oh well.
