Cigarman, good post. I wholeheartedly agree with your points.

Tvl4free, I hope your ego has been sufficiently stroked.

I've been in a similar situation where I identified a great mileage run on USAirways (its gone now). I have not posted it here (though I came close once), but I have emailed it to folks who I know could use it -- and because I used it myself. If I didn't need it myself I would have posted it.
I don't get it pitflyer. You only share this find with a select group and then criticize tvl4free for doing something similar. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif

Very different situation IMO.

There is a big difference between:
[*] Telling someone in in a face to face conversation or in a FlyerTalk Forum about a loophole in a FF travel program.

and

[*] Coming to an open FT forum or a face to face gathering and saying "I know something you don't know. Now, tell ME why I should tell you..."

Randy reminds us all the time to Talk Travel not Tease and Tempt each other with what the other guy may or may not know....

Geo1004:I agree that this should have been dealt with better. A better approach would have been to post a general question such as: What's your take on posting legal loopholes that could possible be shut down if the word got out? Or: How can I spread the word about a loophole without running the risk of getting it shut down prematurely?

But I fail to see why people who don't openly share their best finds, should now say it's wrong for someone else to do the same. tvl4free has not said he/she is keeping this deal to him/herself. Word will get out, but perhaps in this manner it will give people time to plan their trips and make use of it before the whole thing comes to an end.

Unfortunately, he/she has.

IMU the plan will be shared at the FT gathering in San Diego. Undoubtedly, word will spread from there.

If you read my original post, I stated if tvl4free has PERSONAL need for the mileage run than he should keep it secret to himself and whatever select group he choses. I have seen no evidence that he actually needs the mileage run listed -- he seems to have decided to keep it secret based on the conversations here.

The reason I did not post the run I had is because I needed it to remain available for my own needs -- however, when someone posted publicly online with a need for a quick mileage run, and I knew that person to be someone I could trust, I told him.

Now that I'm not attempting for status with USAirways, I would be happy to post the mileage run -- EXCEPT that it's gone now.

Finally, as geo1004 pointed out, tvl4free ASKED for opinions in this public forum and I've given mine. My opinions are often unpopular and probably led to Catman brushing me off at the last Flyertalk meeting, but I'm willing to pay that price to say what I believe rather than beg.

If I need something from Flyertalk, I'll post publicly. I know a few people who I can count on responding, some may even chose to respond privately. If I have something that Flyertalkers can benefit from I will post publicly -- unless I personally need that 'loophole' to remain into the near future.

Finally, as a public note to tvl4free, this should not be considered a comment on your character. Everyone, including dg1 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif makes bad decisions and I just think this is one of them. I'm glad you contribute and help many, including me, with difficult last minute itins, but that doesn't have to mean everything you do is golden. I hope you understand that.

NEVER FEAR, da Village Idiot is here.... Now, what was the question Cigarman?!?! I dozed off in some of these rambling responses. Where am I? Mom? is that you...

se94583 May 23, 2001 10:29 am

sounds like tvl4free simply wanted to stroke his ego at the board's expense. You would think with all those hours in the air, he would have thought of a more satisfying form of entertainment.

cigarman May 23, 2001 10:39 am

The question was MR village idiot...
Why go thru all this? Or perhaps it was do you want fries with that? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif How is the hotdog cart biz going? You know there are 4 threads on this silly, should I post my run thing. You could be doing land office business if you had some assitants and a few more carts...

Check out #4 of tvl4free's reasons. Of course, I'm not sure what "evidence" you're looking for.

I was ready to work for V-I. Guess, he could not afford my price. 100K miles a year, not a mile more, not a mile less.

I fail to see the point in even making the original posting, at least the way it was presented, since it should have been pretty clear from the start that the only outcome would be to stir things up, make some of us feel excluded and to ruffle feathers.

Guys, the show is over. Enough harm has been done. Can we please leave the theatre and go home in peace? Don't blow up matter and spoil the rest of the party. Let this thread die out and may nothing like this come up again.

Please?
