How about an "ignore user" option?

IMHO if this option were available with the FT software, it would save a lot of time when sifting through threads. You can add whomever you feel is posting redundant, non productive material etc... to your ignore list, and presto, you can customize your thread-viewing to the ones that you feel are relevant.

I've wasted my share of time skimming through a thread that I thought might be informative, to only find a recurring number people who are bickering, finger-pointing, and/or cross posting redundant material.

I believe this option--and it is just that, an option, you can opt to use it or not--will greatly enhance the enjoyment of this site.

That sounds like a good idea, but the problem is that lots of folks around here (myself included) are generally level headed and try to share good ideas, but occasionally "go off." If you block some of the bad stuff -- you will inevitably miss out on some good stuff.

This has been brought up thousands of times in the past, and just like a United flight, it is a waiting game.

eastwest: The point you bring up is a negative to this. But IMO for people who post maybe one informative post out of every hundred, the loss of thatone informative post is well worth not having to read the other 99. The other negative is that the threads won't make sense if someone's post isn't presence, and I say (1) some people's posts never add anything to the thread, so it isn't an issue, and (2) who cares.

I use the ignore feature on newsgroups and love it.

By the way, isn't it ironic that we have an ignore feature on the civil chat, yet none on the boards.

There are certain threads I just do not read if initiated by certain posters - unless they surpass a certain threshold of posts (propriatory information.) I do not think I have loss anything and have gained a great amount of time in the process.

Speaking of suggestions for how to make FlyerTalk work better, how about posting this down in the FT Suggestions forum, and not here in Buzz, where it doesn't belong.

Randy Petersen is already talking about replacing UBB software with something else.

Perhaps the new software will include a nuisance filter.
