Introducing the Airbus A380
Just noticed that CNN is reporting that the A3XX has been officially renamed the A380.

The aircraft will probably be too large to provide a food and drink service by F/As in economy, you will have to go to the food hall and order from McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc. How many miles do you get for a Big Mac and large fries?

I hear the new A380 will have a casino on board. Oh well so much for those Las Vegas trips - just buy a R/T from SFO to Asia or Europe, cheaper than staying at the casino hotel.
Do you think they'll have those little cards that you stick in the slot machines and get pleying credit? You know like one FF Mile for every dollar you lose....

Very good article in my favorite newspaper, the IHT: http://www.iht.com/articles/4857.htm
And I don't want to hear anyone complaining about the loans (reimbursable) from the european govts. that the Airbus consortium will be receiving. Not until the same voices are heard about technology transfer from Boeing's military, govt-funded programs to the commercial aircraft division.

I just don't see the fun in flying in sardine class on one of these 600+ seat monsters. You just know the airlines will be packing them in.

On that same CNN link it states (from what source I don't know) that the A380 will carry from 550 people in a 3 class config. and up to 800 in a charter setup.
Yikes....800 PAX as a charter....if possible, it's one aircraft I'll avoid....even at 550 PAX.
I love the Airbus product....but I also have limits to my patience.

Call me a pessimist, but get real ladies and gentlemen. Gyms, casinos, food outlets, bars, personally I'll believe those amenities when I see them. SEATS, SEATS AND EVEN MORE SEATS. You don't honestly think the airlines are going to pass up the opportunity of being able to sell more tickets do you?

For those interested in the broader-than-aviation implications of the A380, take a look at this from Canada's national newspaper, The Globe & Mail Report on Business:
http://www.globeandmail.com/gam/ROBC...220/RCOOK.html
And I agree with Droneklax about the hidden subsidies U.S. aviation manufacturers have always received by way of their military and NASA R&D work. Such subsidies pale in comparison to what European [and Canadian and Brazilian] governments have given to their aerospace companies.
(Pardon the double post, but it seems more people think this is a FF program related matter appropriate for The Buz, rather than something more general for the In The News forum.)

It will be like disembarkation of a mega cruise ship.
You are given a color-coded disembarkation pass depending on how soon your connection flight is, with local passengers last. Baggage is similarly tagged. By the time they get to blue tags (final destination pax) the aircraft was at the gate for four hours.
