I wonder if they even think of that? I can't imagine being stuck on that thing for 16 hours with recirculated air!

At the present moment, only SFO International terminal can accomodate twin loading ramps for the A380. This presents a problem as more modifications will have to come. Remember how cool it would be to get one of those video household phones? Problem is it takes two and it will take a while until it reaches a level that the mass population can afford. In the meantime, fly CO new 777 from EWR to HKG at what could possibly be the longest flight in the world. Maybe another airport will be able to accomodate the new Airbus, until then it will only be able to offer excursions over San Francisco. And without casinos (who wants to play roulette during turbulence anyways?!?)the new plane will not be a Hyatt in the sky.

I thought the longest flight recorded is LAX to South Africa.

I don't mean to be morbid, but how do you think would the public handle a crash of this magnitude? Could we really handle the news of 550 plus fatalities in a single crash?
I believe the JAL crash several years ago, of a Japanese domestic 747 equipped all coach, had over 500 fatalities. A bad repair had been made several years earlier on the rear bulkhead, and the bulkhead tore catastrophically in flight, destroying the tail. The plane could not be controlled and ended up crashing in the mountains. Miraculously there were several survivors.

Actually, a lot can be done to reduce fatalities in air travel esp. on new airplanes. Things like evacuation smoke hoods, non-flammable interiors, and a lot of other things. New planes should be safer planes.

If LAX-S. Africa were available, it would be the longest flight. I only found one flight and it was code shared and operated by Delta connecting in Atlanta. It is one flight number but not a non stop. The only fear with flying with CO to Hong Kong is flying over such desolete areas as North Canada, the Artic circle and Siberia. Good luck in the event of an emergency landing out there or stopping to refuel.
