using frequent flyer miles to CMB?

My wife and I are planning to go to Colombo Sri Lanka in February.

We have plenty of miles with all the three alliances, Star, OneWorld, Skyteam.

What would be the best way to go on a business class reward from Europe,
both as to availability and miles?

Thanks.

Fly SQ via SIN with your US miles. Get rid of them whilst you can. @:-)

If you can get SQ seats (*A) I think most people would say that's the best option for that route. From the comments in the Star threads, getting C/F award seats on SQ isn't very easy, though it does happen on occasion.

See if they will allow you to go CX via HKG and BKK/SIN. They only count the direct mileage LHR-CMB, yet you can get decent mis-connects of under 24 hours in both HKG, BKK and SIN.

With Skyteam you can go Czech airline to CMB, with Star you can go Austrian, both from Europe.

I believe that the only two star airlines that fly to CMB are Singapore and Thai.

Un,ess OS stopped flying Vienna-Dubai-Colombo in the last few weeks they DO fly there and even have fifth freedom rights from Dubai. It should also be mentioned that there are plenty of low price options from Dubai in any case if you want to fly there and then buy another ticket.

Indeed, SriLankan airways, (an EK partner) flies from DXB. You can also do FRA-MAA (Chennai, India) and then catch a SriLankan flight for like under $100.

Another option on *Alliance- FRA-BLR on LH and BLR-CMB or Thai via BKK or SQ via Sin.
