My US weekend: CPH-LAS, LAS-STO
Hi!
I thought I would use my first posting on FlyerTalk to ask for some tips from all you experts out there
I am leaving CPH around 8am on friday (CET) going to STO and then to O'hare. The transatlantic part is with SAS. From Chicago I am going on with United to LAS.
Home: I leave LAS on Sunday morning to Chicago by United and then to STO with SAS ready for work on Monday morning.
Now, I would of course like to fly as comfortable as possible (I've already ordered my PP-card so that is taken care of).
I'll be flying coach all the way but would really like to be upgraded (as much as possible). Any tips? I've already read any word ever written on this board about upgrades.
Also: I have 3 SAS Upgrade vouchers. However, 4 are required to be upgraded one-way in a transatlantic fligt. Would it be best if I gave them my 3 certificates and hope they will upgrade me anyway - or should I dress in a suit and wear a tie and hope they will upgrade me due to my pleasent person
I've never been upgraded before, so I don't have any experience.
Also: I got a rather late fligt from Chicago to LAS. My agent said there was one fligt earlier but that all the seats she could book already were booked - could I maybe go to the united desk in Chicago and be put on waitlist for the earlier fligt?
Hope that all of you will share with your brilliant experience.
Thanks.

SAS will not operationally upgrade you unless economy class is full.
However, a lot of the time on the old 767s they run the middle cabin as economy class. Take my word for it, it's the seat that matters and the middle cabin is really a business class cabin. So try for that cabin at check-in at CPH and ORD and forget about the upgrade vouchers. Service for ecomomy class is good on SAS.
If you have EuroBonus Gold status, you will stand a good chance of getting an operational upgrade if economy class is full. Star Gold also helps but anything less is almost useless. So then you could try your upgrade vouchers. You have to tell them at CPH that you plan to use them and tell them again at the gate at ARN. This is because it's always a standby upgrade and it's the gate agent that does it. If the gate agent is sympathetic they *might* take 3 vouchers only. I've been in situations where they haven't bothered taking them at all. But some agents are strict and might insist on the full 4 vouchers (20,000 EuroBonus points).
Good luck anyway!

Great with such inside tips, really... :-)

Take a look at:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum42/HTML/000049.html
There are new 767s (with just two cabins) as well but only one or two are in service.

As it turned out, the agen at ARN did accept the 3 vouchers (15,000 points) as payment.

In keeping with FT standard practices, threads over four years that are bumped are generally retired. Appreciate Goldlust adding the epilogue.
