civility and tone

What is happening at the moment is really creepy, but not exceptional in this forum.

Do you really think FQTV has gone of his rocker, after so many hundreds of posts by him? The question rang out in my head, so I did some investigation. There was definitely a provocation. Maybe not an all-out hit-over-the-head, but I can truly understand his point.

I find, very many times, the civility and general tone of some fora here to be outrageous. And that is not a word I myself use often.

I've come across some arrogant (can put up with it), some snide (blood becomes warmer), and even belligerent (blood tops 100C) posters here.

FQTV has only vented in response.

Please, for the sake of everyone who visits this website, think before you post, think before you reply, and be very much aware of tone.

Instead of bringing forward old threads, I think that someone owes FQTV an apology. The point he was originally trying to bring up, in my opinion, is one worth thinking about, and shouldn't be buried under old, worn-out threads.

As regards the individual about whom you are writng, I could not and would not comment. However in your general points, you are quite right. I have been posting only a short time, and I will not go back to the BA site as there is someone there who is most unpleasant, rude, arrogant, and proports to be an expert on the airline. No other view count or matter. That said maybe he/she thinks the same of me. Maybe if we actually met, we'd get on fine, but I just think that avoidance is best, as I might commit something in writng that I'd later regret.

We are all entitled to our views, but what I value most is that we respect those of others. I have learnt a huge amount from the wisdom of others who post here, and I would hate to see that compromised by slanging matches between people, or, for want of a better word .....iness and snide remarks. I read some pieces and see it just a steam valve (surely people's lives don't really spin around upgrades/denied upgrades, breakfast options, or power points) which is hopefully useful. The USA, for me a Briton, is about freedom of speech, and freedom of expression. Sometimes that which is written takes on a magnitude which would not apply if we heard the tone and the manner in which it was said.

I hope that I have not caused any offense by this as none was, or is intended.

Well I guess that barb was aimed at me.

I agree with you Paul that avoidance is best. However I would say that some people here have built up relationships which, without understanding them it is easy to misinterpret a comment.

One of the points of this board is to express views, some you will agree with, some you won't. If views were never challanged we would have a very stale board. It is very easy when you do not agree with someones view to interpret that disagreement as anger or rudeness. In my experience of this board that is very rarely the case.

Just for fun go back to some of the threads which you refer to, read them again and review if your opinion changes or not. My expereince is that once a thread has wound to a close, and the discussion has ended what appeared as rude or arraogant at the time, very often isn't after the event.

You comment that what you value most is that we respect each others views. What I value most is the ability to appologise when we have made a mistake.

Dear Nick,

Yes, you are right of course. I agree with everything that you say. I would rather go by "what's best forgotten". The trouble is I may pass you in the street and never be able to buy you that drink. If I have offended you, I really am sorry. I was probably having a bad morning all those posts ago. Any of us who like these sort of post boards are like minded enough surely to want to fall out. May you and I say "Pax?" (NOT PAX - I did not realise what a dreadful pun that was.

Paul and Sir Merry... I'm glad you two solved your little problem.

And hey, maybe if the two of you meet up in London, go have a pint (and have one for me as well!)
