Amtrak to Starwood to AA?
I am sure this has been discussed before, but a search yields so many threads it is hard for me to get a clear answer. I have taken the miles out of CO and would like to get them into AA. Can I do Amtrak to Starwood and then to AA?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You can redeem for Starwood certificates not points.
The only programs you can literally transfer points out to are United, Continental, Midwest, and Hilton.
You can transfer points to Midwest and use those miles for American flights. But if you truly must have AA miles, the two possible routes would be:
Amtrak --> Hilton --> American (70% devaluation, IIRC)
Amtrak --> United --> Diners Club --> American (50% devaluation)
You CAN do Amtrak --> United --> Diners Club --> Starwood, but 25k Amtrak points become only 7500 AA miles.
