Money vs Rewards

Fungible. A rather odd little word that means "easily exchanged." Which makes it a good word to know, because it describes the most important benefit of the new Gold Mark Rewards from Adam's Mark Hotels & Resorts. You see Gold Mark Rewards are real dollars, not points, miles or merchandise. Which of course, can be exchanged for anything you can buy. In another word, they're fungible!

These are the exact words from a new advertising campaign from Adam's Mark Hotels. Does it get your attention? Well, it does stand out in a world of common miles and points. A few things, then we'll visit with them. They describe this new program as revolutionary. I actually think it's more evolutionary because it is in line with other things about to transpire in the industry, such as the AOL AAdvantage program and other unnamed initiatives. But, nonetheless, it is something different enough to take a second look.

Of course this makes corporations (who generally pay for hotel bills) cringe. In most companies you could be fired for taking cash back from a supplier, and this is exactly what the hotel is doing. Miles and points are a bit more hidden form a bribery, but cash in cash. Shame on them.

"Shame on them"

Do you really think so? It's like a rebate!

BTW- I wish they had more hotels where I want/need to be!

Lets not rave at this program just yet.

For example if you spend less than $1000 in a year you get zippo.

If you spend between 1000 and 5000 you get 3%.

That basically means if you stay 33 1/3 nights, you get a free night.
This is probably the lowest rate of any
hotel chain out there.

Hardly something to jump and shout about.
