My million mile bonus was posted this week! This should ease some concerns about LatinPass making good on their offer (it'll also probably prompt a few to start calling LatinPass ten times per day instead of five to ask about their status).

It took about 12 weeks for the bonus to post after my last transaction. At least one of my hotel stays didn't go through properly automatically, but LatinPass notified them and sorted this out.

Keep the trip reports coming; they're great. Only 23 days left...

Thanks Pudding Guy,
As I sit here at UIO waiting for my flight to LIM and on to GYE and on to EWR after being up 24 hours, I have serious doubts about my sanity ! It's good to know that the miles are for real ( I hope ).

The plot thickens. Prior to leaving I sent e-mail to Radisson to verify that the "web-hot" deal qualified. I Received e-mail back that said it would not qualify. I rebooked at a higher rate. I spent 1 night at the Radisson in Guatemala City. Yesterday, I sent e-mail to verify that I could get "gold points" or Latin Pass credit. I received e-mail back that just said that Radisson only gives "gold points" for rentals in US and Canada (didn't respond to the question of Latin Pass points.) I sent back an e-mail, with all previous correspondence attached, and asked for clarification. I will keep you posted on the response.

I just received a response-it just reiterated the policy of no gold points except for Canada and US. In my first e-mail to the moderator I told Radisson that my scheduled stay was in Guatemala City. Unfortunately the response from Radisson didn't mention the geographic exclusion. Now, post rental, their memory has improved. I was told upon check in that I will get LP points. Wait and see.
I spoke today (june 12) with Radisson, Priority Club, Thrifty.
Radisson and Priority are going to make some phone calls and get back with me.
Thrifty (6weeks old)said to send the info to LP--of note: for LP, Thrifty gives credit per rental, not per day. If I understand it correctly, LP will not be able to tell how many days by the electronic info sent by Thrifty.

Cy-gone,

When in Quito for transportation and local information call Guillermo Valencia at 593-09-815-847. See Schutzee's post on this page. If you use Guillermo, have him take you to the town that specializes in Leather products. I kick myself daily for not buying that dress leather coat for $100 (USD). Awesome prices that are too hard to pass up!

I also agree with your thoughts on FlyerTalk. I am a convert as well!

As per the Altitude sickness problems everyone is having: use Diamox! It is very inexpensive as the generic form is what pharmacies usually stock. I am surprised that many have not heard about this if they went to a travel clinic for immunizations. Diamox helps clear up the problems quickly or prevent them from starting!

AVIS Panama?
Has anyone received credit from LatinPass for
AVIS rentals at PTY?

I'm trying to find any "holes" in the partner
activities that we did... Hilton has been a problem so far since they aren't showing the
double-dip Miles to LatinPass on the web site. Marriott was great , the web site shows
the stay and that it was credited to LatinPass account # xxx. AVIS credits from the US are fine so far ...but I'm a little
concerned about the AVIS Panama since they seemed very disorganised and only made a note of the LP#... Thanks!

A quick message from an internet cafe in Cuzco. Went relatively smoothly up to now although less so than my central American first half back in March. Two problems encountered:
Despite lengthy discussions with Aeropostal at Guayaquil, they categorically refused to allow me on board if I did not pay the USD25 departure tax even though I had arrived the same day. I talked to the check-in agent, then his manager, manager went to discuss the matter with the Civil Aviation authority at the airport and the final decision was that: if you return to your point of origin (viz do LIM-GYE-LIM), you are NOT in transit in GYE and therefore cannot be exempted from the tax. Aeropostal agent also added that civil aviation had issued them strict guidance on this recently. I am not convinced but, as a passenger, you have no choice but to accept their decision. I did NOT have that problem in Quito, though, where I was able to do LIM-UIO-LIM without aying departure tax in UIO.
Second hiccup was a confirmation problem on my CUZ-LIM with TA. Result: have to spend an extra day in Cuzco instead of LIM (probably just as well, anyway) to take the TA flight tomorrow.

My Sister just got back and had an interesting story about her trip down. Her flight on Copa from PTY to Guayaquil left late due to a passenger passing out (during boarding the plane). The FA's gave her some Oxygen and she recovered enough to get to her seat and the flight took off 45 minutes late. She now only had 20 minutes to make her transfer to Aeropostal. She told the FA about "having to make the connection". The pilot radioed ahead and Aeropostal employees were waiting for her in the jetway. They escorted her onto the tarmac, in through a back door to the ticket counter where she got her boarding pass, then back onto the tarmac directly to the airplane. When she walked onto the plane there was a fight between the cabin crew and a passenger. The crew threw the passenger and (his)luggage off the plane. The passenger tried to reboard the plane and there was alot of heated Spanish being spoken. The plane eventually took off less one passenger. All in all she said it made for a more memorable flight.

Early Wednesday 21st to Lima, spend the night in Lima because of misconnect.

Early Thursday 22 June to 25 June to Quito on Aces, long layover to Lasca flights to Guatamala City via San Jose. Spend Thu, Fri, Sat nights in Guatamala. I have to fit in an Aviateca/Taca roundtrip to San Salvador during this time.

Using TWA to get to and from Miami.
Car rentals all done
LP hotels in GUA for two nights and one other along the way or back at home the last week of June.

Would appreciate hints about sleeping in caracas and lima airports. No diners club card, but any other suggestions as to where/how etc would be helpful!

Myriad:

We seem to be on the same flights from MIA until CUZ. I'm staying two nights in CUZ but will be in GUA overnight on 6/22. I think Randy and maybe some other will be with us from MIA to UIO. and Craz will be with us from UIO through CUZ. See my itinerary be following the link a few messages up. Where are you staying in CCS and UIO? Which flights are you taking from CCS to UIO?

I'll be starting the second part of my 500,000 run on Sunday:

6/18 TW12 JFK-San Juan 9:20-1:04P
VX509 SJU-BOG 3:55-7:15P

Overnight in BOG with friends

6/19 AV78 BOG-CCS 9:15P-12:05A
6/20 VH500 CCS-MIA 7:00A-10:10A

Has any one overnighted at the CCS airport? (Myriad, any suggestions?) Is the Diners Club lounge open 24-hours?

Cheers!

Any objections in starting a new thread for this topic? It is quite long. We can just add a link to this thread.
