ANZ flight cancellation - HELP

ANZ canceled my flight on July 28 from Nadi to LAX due to the low passenger load. They gave me options of leaving a day early and losing a day and paid hotel night or leaving a day late which is not an option. Also they said they could route me via Auckland and take an additional 12 hours. I asked for some consideration such as reimbursement for loss of hotel costs or upgrade due to the length of the new flight.

So far all I've received is 2 email addresses that came back as not there and a customer service email that won't respond back before we leave.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

All I can say is "good luck" if your experience is anything like mine with Air New Zealand.

We flew LAX to the Cook Islands with a one-stop in Tahiti. We arrived Sunday morning at 5AM and ANZ advised me that they'd off-loaded my bag by mistake in Tahiti. All I had were the clothes I was wearing.

They said they'd have my bag to me WEDNESDAY.

Only after I asked about it, they offered NZ$100 (about US$55) for "incidentals" until my bag arrived in FOUR days. From their attitude, they could've given a rip. US$55 doesn't go very far in buying clothes, etc. on a south-sea island (heck, sunscreen was US$12).

My bag eventually arrived on THURSDAY evening! We departed Saturday evening back to LAX.

I later learned that they could have routed the bag from Tahiti to NZ and back to the Cook Islands and I would have had the bag in a day. It seemed like they just didn't care.

thanks ejubler,

I was hoping with all these experts on the boards that someone could offer a suggestion or a reference to a rule concerning cancellations. Maybe when I become elite.

drtravels, yes it is always a problem when flights are cancelled due to operational changes. Air New Zealand has an obligation (a contract) to get you to LAX in a reasonable manner and time. Sometimes endorsing the ticket to another airline is a good option due to operational changes (regardless of fare basis restrictions). Unfortunately, your route is not a very busy one especially since the coup! This as you know restricts your options. But you do have one option. Have your ticket endorsed to Air Pacific and United Airlines.

Have your ticket endorsed to Air Pacific FJ411 to Auckland (7:40am dep, 10:50am arr.)
Air New Zealand NZ2 has a flight from AKL (8:30 PM dep, 1:30pm arr)BUT DO NOT accept this flight. Insist on being endorsed to United Airlines Metal UA 842(NZ codeshare 4842 /1:30Pm dep, 6:20am arr in LAX ). This will save you a long wait in Auckland and get you into LAX 7 hours earlier.

Good luck on the upgrade, it does happen sometimes but do not wish too hard. If you paid for the air ticket with your credit card (especially a gold or platinum card) then you may be able to claim any your dinner etcetera. Depends on how long the delay is from the original departure time as outlined on your ticket.

Good Luck
Dave
