Help wanted with Travelocity voodoo
Hi all
The fabulous US$345 CNS- LAX fare posted at Travelocity has inspired me to try and use Travelocity better.
At present I have been playing with the Dream Maps feature and am suitably impressed. Also for some time I have had the farewatcher feature enabled. It's quite good.
But I want more. At present my farewatcher is set up to watch
mel-par
mel-lon
syd-par
syd-lon
mel-noumea
What I'd like to do is be able to input a 3 letter code eg mel - xxx where xxx stands for all cities in europe and then farewatcher would watch out for the cheapest fares to all european destinations.
Alternatively I'd like to put in xxx - par where xxx stands for all Australian cities and keep an eye on the cheapest Australian fare to Paris.
This would enable me to use farewatcher to cover a greater variety of city pairs.
Is this possible? Are there any other tricks which would enable me to get greater coverage of cities so that I could be kept aware of as many bargains as possible between to given continents eg Australia - Europe.
The reason for this is that I'm hanging out for an ultra cheap airfare to Europe at present. With the olypics it just might happen but if I can monitor as many fares as possible using Travelocity I stand a better chance of being able to book if a cheap fare does come up.
Alternatively are there other fare engines that are as cheap that have similar monitoring features?
Thanks
cheers Peter

I hope someone has a trick to do this. The best I've been able to do is set up multiple logins with 5 fare watchers each and also use the three letter codes that mean multiple airports like PAR, LON, CHI, WAS, NYC.

I'd be interested in this also. I got it to accept CHA to ALL for fares below $140 to check for bargain fares from Chattanooga to anywhere but so far I have not gotten any notifications. Though it took it, I'd say that it isn't working. I'll bet there are some codes that work as wild cards.

Rail Baron: you may have to wait a while before you see fares to Albenga, Italy drop that low.
Use the Dream Map feature on Travelocity (under the Booking Tools pull-down menu). Enter the airport you can start from, then choose Western or Eastern Europe on the tab above the map. You can then click on the destination city and price to automatically see the airline and fare rules. That only gives the best fares in the system today (for travel through the year) but it's an easy way to check dozens of routes at one time.
Checking Sydney now, I see $659US plus tax to Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver on Canadian, and $419 RT to Honolulu on Canada 3000. The cheapest to Europe is $868 RT to Paris on AOM, or $958 RT to Moscow on Aeroflot. Melbourne is higher at $958 RT to Paris.
You know, if you can leave from Cairns, you might want to use the $323 Continental fare to LAX, plus a fare from LA to Europe-- go in November and use a $505RT LAX-London fare on Continental-- by pooling all of those, you should come away with Silver Elite: on MileMarker, I came up with 27280 flown miles Cairns-GUM-LAX-LGW nonstop segments.
If you want to go sooner and/or from Sydney, use the $658 Toronto fare, plus a $202RT Air Transat Toronto-Manchester fare good for August. Europe fares from the Dream Map from Toronto are _really_ low!

What gives with the low Toronto to Europe fares? Who is Canada3000 and AirTransat? Their fares don't work at all. And there's lots of them! The query comes back to say either they don't serve the route being quoted or the fare has expired. Are they simply overloading SABRE?

Anyone figured out how to get the $345 fare from LAX to CNS instead of the reverse? It prices at over a $1,000 leaving from LAX.
