Lack of route overlap???? If you buy this, you can make no argument for AA buying Northwest and Delta buying Continental.

It is not the overlap that matters, it is the number of players in the field. Every Airline matches each others fares. With one less airline, there is that much less competetion.

Absolutely! Yet, I fully believe that AA or if not then perhaps DL will actually go for NWA. Conceivably, NWA could even try to thwart such a move by going for a fullblown CO takeover/merger, since they have a controlling 51% voting interest- I guess!
