Leroy - Where is the NICA flight? (or equivalent on your itinerary)

Also - did anybody follow up on getting the 1 million twice? Sounds too good but then again so did one million.

leroy11 Mar 10, 2000 11:10 pm

Davistev:

The Lacsa MGA - SJO - MIA counts as Nica. LP has a new FAQs section on its web-site and it states that each person can only get one bonus - ruling out the second million.

davistev Mar 10, 2000 11:47 pm

See Senor Leroy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Now I see how the NICA flight fits in. I just assumed it had to be the Miami - Managua Taca flight. But it can be a LACSA flight to Miami as well via SJO.

Yes, I looked at the new FAQ portion on the latinpass web site. It does answer most questions except maybe this one.

What happens if you purchase a roundtrip ACES flight and a roundtrip Taca Peru domestic flight and then SAETA begins operation and then Taca Peru begins flights to Miami or heavens forbid (Buenos Aires?). Will Latinpass go by the rules at the time the tickets were purchased or by the rules at the time you fly?

LEROY11: Why didn't you try BOG/UIO/LIM/BOG on ACES with a free stopover in UIO. The RT fare will be lower than OW fares you have used.

Can you E-mail me the full message received from LP.

Thanks.

LatinPass E-mailed and said they changed their mind again. Only one bonus per person.Wouldn't this be a great world that if someone promised you something they wouldn't go back on their promise?

FoxPro Mar 11, 2000 5:26 am

leroy11: Wouldn't be a bit closer to the rules having a non-stop flight from MGA to MIA (like Taca 515). If I read LP the rules correctly, they would honour flights from MGA-MIA. You are giong MGA-SJO with an onward connection to MIA and a flight no change in SJO.

myriad Mar 11, 2000 7:45 am

and wouldn't it be a great world if a million miles, posted a while after the promotion was enough to make anyone VERY happy.

leroy11 Mar 11, 2000 8:47 am

Miler -
I don't need to get back to BOG and I don't want to do "throw-away" ticketing either. As much as I like UIO as a city, I want to make this trip as brief as possible. These two flights will be booked on two separate coupons. DL has given me a great fare back from LIM that will allow me to continue to be elite with them. However, thanks for the tip. Check your e-mail for their e-mail.

Fox Pro -
From the LP web-site FAQs section: "In view of the fact that NICA is not operating at this time, we will be honoring any flight with the GRUPO TACA airlines from Miami to Managua or vice versa only." This makes no mention of direct / nonstop / connections. It has been OK' d by LP. I agree, it probably would be closer to the rules if I took the nonstop TACA flight, but that flight leaves in the am and would mean spending a night in MGA.

To All:
Some interesting hotels I found: the Best Western. I know they're not the best hotels in the world, but in some of these cities, their locations are hard to beat:

Tegucigalpa Best Western - airport 3 miles - limited shuttle service.
Managua Best Western - airport located across from hotel - 200 meters.
Caracas Best Western - airport 2 miles.

Cheers.

Under promotions at the Latinpass web-site. They have added a new FAQ section. A lot of new relevent information. What caught my eye was Section 14, which states that you may transfer your points to Hilton Honors and ANY of the member airlines. Now I realize that KLM, National, U.S. Air and TWA are not members but partners. How about COPA? Copa is listed as a member so you should be able to transfer your points to their program. Copa uses Continentals One-Pass program as the default administrator. They have no program of their own. If Latin Pass is true to their word you should be able to transfer all the mile to Copa and effectively Continentals One Pass. This is new! but maybe not true.

davistev Mar 11, 2000 10:57 pm

I agree cy-gone. Wouldn't that be nice? But if COPA doesn't pan out then I think AVIANCA would also be a good place to park a million miles but I think the ultimate decision will come down to where the member lives. As for me, Hilton miles look good unless of course NICA starts direct service to Hong Kong or Lacsa joins Asiamiles http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

JayJ Mar 12, 2000 2:46 am

Do all published fares on Latin Pass partner airlines (TWA, USAirways, KLM, National) count for the bonus? Has anybody found a published fare that will not count?

Djlawman Mar 12, 2000 9:27 am

Leroy11--did you get confirmation from them that the SJO to MIA flight could be used for NICA?? The website seems fairly definitive and says ONLY the MIA to MGA flights on group TACA can be used.

We are thinking about a schedule right now, and may go with another couple. No one wants to travel thru Columbia, so we may do the following:

MIA to MGA TACA (FOR NICA)
MGA TO GUA TACA
GUA TO SJO AVIATECA
SJO TO PTY LACSA
PTY TO CCS COPA
CCS TO MIA AEROPOST.

In addition, if we do it, we are planning on staying in nice hotels, so we will probably stay overnight in Intercontinentals in Caracas, San Jose, and Managua.

leroy11 Mar 12, 2000 10:24 am

The following is from the FAQs section of the LP web-site. LACSA is a Grupo Taca airline.

9- How can I get my international segment with NICA if they are no longer operating?
In view of the fact that NICA is not operating at this time, we will be honoring any flight with the GRUPO TACA airlines from Miami to Managua or vice versa only.

1- Which are the ten (10) LatinPass Member Airlines?
The ten (10) LatinPass Member Airlines are: ACES, AVIANCA, AEROPOSTAL, COPA, GRUPO TACA (LACSA, AVIATECA, NICA,TACA, TACA PERU) and SAETA.

And their e-mail response to me also OK'ed this.

On a separate note, does anyone know how to get their LP number into their HHonors account. I tried to enroll online and it wanted to know which LP program I wanted to enroll in giving me a choice of all of the partner's ff programs - for example Latin Pass - Avianca Plus - but nothing just plain LP. Help ... !!

Cheers.

DAVISTEV - I don't think anyone responed to your question about reserving ACES flight to replace the grounded SAETA, and then finding out at flight time that SAETA is flying again. I asked a LP agent this question, and was told that it is dependent on the time at which you make your RESERVATION. Don't have it in writing.

I'm hard at it to come up with an itinerary for the million today. We are starting in MEX, because one of us can get there easily with ff miles, and the other can get there with reasonably priced partner flights. We plan to get Aviateca to GUA, and KLM for a partner segment on the way back. So really we are trying to start and end in GUA, and will already have the Aviateca. We have 8 full flying days (Mar 26 - April 3). It is proving difficult to end up back in GUA at a reasonable price. I have one plan that comes to something like $2775, but I consider that high - I'd appreciate any thoughts:'
(MEX - GUA Aviateca ~240)
GUA - MGA COPA 250
MGA - MIA Lacsa/NIca 362
Mia - CCs Aeropostal 259
CCS - BOG Avianca 237
BOG - UIO ACES/Saeta 189
UIO - LIM Aces 268
Lim - CUZ Taca Peru (round trip) 212
Lim - PTY Copa 352
PTY - SJO TACA 165
SJO - GUA Lacsa 241
(GUA - MEX) KLM ???

This includes an extra COPA flight, and it is expensive. Ideas Please FTers?
