$100 off AA through Expedia

Noticed this on the Expedia.com website:

From March 6 through March 31, 2000, when you buy a ticket on American Airlines through Expedia.com, we'll give you a reward valid for $100 off per ticket on your summer travel.

Plus, if you're an American Airlines AAdvantage member, when you travel using your reward, your discounted flight will qualify for full frequent flyer mileage credit!

I would be very cautious of taking advantage of this offer if your sole purpose is to insure a $100 savings on your summer vacation. The main reason I feel this way is that if you wait until June, as the promotion states is the way it works, to purchase an airline ticket for summer travel to a popular destination, it is quite possible that the airfare will be higher by that time than if you purchase your ticket over the next two months. Or what if another carrier is offering a lower price to your destination than Expedia is offering through American Airlines?

I have to agree with Sheryl that the $100 savings on a future ticket may not offset the higher prices for summer tickets purchased after June.

At first I thought this was a god send for me as I travel back and forth between LAX and SJC on AA. $100 off of a future ticket for buying a ticket on Expedia was too good to be true considering that my tickets are only ~$100 each. Basically I thought "wow, buy one, get one free!"

But, if you look at the "terms and conditions" for the $100 off, there are minimum prices for the price of the ticket you must purchase in order to redeem the $100 savings. These minimum prices made the deal too expensive for me to take advantage of.
