You are all forgetting the best feature.!

Primary rental car insurance. Big difference from "gold" cards. Diner's provides dollar one coverage. Others require you to involve your own company first. Never a need to take collision damage.

I feel sooooooo discriminated again (as this rental-car insurance is not for Diners Club cards in Switzerland (nor in Germany etc...). We have only coverage of personal-accidents (no car coverage) on the trip (including rental cars to and from the airport).

Baobab indicates that Diners Club standard is 1 Club Rewards point for every dollar charged, and then 2 points per airline mile. Since I've signed up, they've called me a "premier" member, and it's been 2 points per dollar charged, so that the ultimate dollars/miles ratio is 1/1, the same as airline-linked credit cards. I didn't do anything to be premier, they just set me up that way. Maybe it's different for overseas members, but in the US a 2/1 dollars/miles ratio would be a competitive disaster.

Right chazas, I forgot to mention the 'premier' bonus (ie a bonus club reward point for every dollar spent). I'm not certain if Diners have a level below premier... (maybe for students?) So you do get 1 ff mile for every dollar spent. Or, as in the case of the recent British Airways promotion, two miles for every dollar spent. Diners generally have a variety of promotions on the go, so there are usually great ways to earn more club rewards points/redeem these points for better than the 2:1 ratio with ff miles.
This is the best card for collecting points when travelling, but it must be augmented by Visa/Mastercard if you want to spend money in regular retail stores.

My advice is to go with Diners, but also to get an airline/hotel affinity Visa or Mastercard for the times when Diners isn't accepted.

TravelCrazy: a brief summary of the benefits

*Sign up bonus - 2000 per month for you (up to 24000 over 12 months), 6000 for the person who refers you.
*2 Club Rewards points for each dollar = 1 ff mile with most programs (premier level DC)
*Club Rewards points don't expire and can be transferred to almost any airline ff plan, in anyone's name
*No preset spending limit
*Access to airport lounges, parking, limos etc
*'Dollar one' car rental insurance
*leCard dining: 20% rebate at participating restaurants
*Great customer service
*Countless ongoing promotions with a multitude of partners

Although they've focused on the travel market in the past, they appear to be expanding their network of retail partners: Barnes & Noble and CompUSA are two of the newer ones.

I hope that this barrage of information helps...

Nice summary baobab. But for some airlines they do not allow transfer to a third party. For example if you want to transfer Club Reward points to British Airways, their rules state that the two accounts (Diners, BA) must be in the same name.

Okay pgupta, perhaps I should have said 'almost any ff program in *almost* anyone's name'

The way to get round the BA problem is to have a household account with them. Then, although the points have to be transferred to the primary cardholder's BA account, anyone listed on the household account can use those miles. I'm the secondary Diners cardholder in our household, but the primary executive club member on the BA household account. I don't care whose name the miles are in as long as I can use them to fly!

Incidentally, BA household accounts can have up to four members. Mileage/executive club points are credited to individual accounts for statement/tier purposes, but the mileage is pooled and any member can use it to claim reward travel.
