Urgent visit to India: Please help
I have invested more than six hours in searching for tickets for an urgent trip but so far I am not getting any good results. I have 180,000 AA points, 50000 United, 60000 UR points plus some other. I am flying out of Boston but when I did the search for flights on AA, one way Bos to Del, AA is asking whooping $455 for fee. I got a good deal on united for return on Sept 30th by paying $84. I am thinking of pulling trigger on that but I need something for outbound first. I tried United for return but they need 80,000 points for return and charging $188 for fee. I am short of 30,000 here. Now I know I can transfer from UR but would that be a good move. I've also used ExpertFlyer to get something on AA ( i.e. without BA) but it has not turned up anything. I searched BA web site for award on Cathay Pacific or others but so far no success. Currently I put an hold one ticket on AA ( 90,000 points + $500) but the flights are not good. Should I wait further. I need to travel on next weekend to visit sick family member. Thanks for your help.

Without sounding too cliche, transfer the UR and book the tickets ASAP. You're not vacationing, you're visiting sick family. You cannot afford to have the award seats disappear. Surely you're under enough stress as it is with your personal situation. And to me, there is no better use of miles/points than when you need them for something urgent. Transfer the UR, book the award now, and be with your family.
And also, just as a note, even if something was available on Cathay Pacific (CX), it would have to go as two awards, as AA only allows routings from North America to the Indian subcontinent that cross the Atlantic.

Also I want to know that how the transfer of points from UR to United work. Should I reserve the ticket in United and after that transfer or first transfer the points. Thanks

There is a lot of availability on EY from JFK on 9/14 and coming back on 9/27 or 9/29. You will need 90k AA miles for the round-trip in economy, which you easily have. No business/first availability from what I see. Just have to get to JFK and back on your own.

Just came back to thanks everyone who helped.
I got a round trip on UA from Newark and used my and spouse's points to get the reward. I searched rewards on their web site and they allowed me to hold it for 24hrs. In all I paid only $180 and got good routes. I think they are best choice as they provide good connection to Boston. AA did suggested some routes but they had tough time finding anything upto BOS. On UA they gave me return flight by Lufthansa which is coming to BOS from Munich.
Any way this is the first time I used my points and experience is very positive. Also I am like to thanks folks here who are so kind to help and searched options for me. Some even PM me for help. Thanks folks!!
