They won't know whether you were approved/declined but they will see the pulls just the same as if you were to apply the next day or the next week. However, applying for multiple cards within the same day may have benefit. I cannot confirm but in the US if you apply for multiple Amex cards within the same day it will produce only 1 HP, so there is one purpose of doing applications in the same day. The same works with BofA for the Alaska Airlines card. Perhaps MBNA would act the same way. Credit card companies are more aware than you may have thought.

Thanks zer0k1,

Does anyone in Canada has a report to share with us about that? :D

For me they posted at the end of the first billing cycle in which I made purchases i.e. at the same time as the 10k bonus for meeting the minimum spend.

Z,

Thanks for your info.

Amex pulls from TU, while CIBC + TD yank from EQ. So in your example above, TD would only see the CIBC pull. At least this is what I've seen in mine/wife's reports. For others, both bureaus might get pulled, so it's YMMV for each individual. Nonetheless, good info you've shared. ^

This is correct. RFD had a thread which showed the bureau each creditor uses. This is a short list as per my experience (Credit inquires / pulls only)

Transunion:
AMEX
Royal Bank
MBNA
Rogers Wireless
Canadian Tire

Equifax:
TD
CIBC
Bank of Montreal
Citi Financial
Scotia Bank
Chase Best Buy
Visa Desjardins

Both:
Capital One (will check both bureaus)
Chase Marriott uses Equifax primarily, but sometimes uses transunion

Aeroplan points appear based on statement generation, once a month. They should appear in your account a few days after your statement date if nothing has gone wrong.

Since the 15K is awarded based on initial spend, you should see it on the 1st statement that is generated after you initially use your card, and show up in Aeroplan a few days after

Extra 10K is after 1K spend, so it should be on the statement after you reach 1K

Thanks for the correction, J! Forgot about about that!

Data point: when I applied for my first Amex card they pulled both EQ and TU. Every pull after that was only TU.

Same thing for spouse and I. 1st pull TU & EQ, successive ones only TU.

Most people seem to get them within 2 account statements.

The system is not identical to that of the USA. However, in regards to updating the credit file, the inquiries are updated almost instantly in the USA as well. People often misunderstand the purpose of an A-O-R or 2/3/4bm. If you are not applying for multiple cards from the same bank, the only advantage is "good housekeeping". Although no one knows for certain how it all works, there have been claims that doing them at the exact same time from multiple browsers will increase odds of instant approval, there have been many claims against that as well. I can only confirm first hand about the Canadian system.

For example, if you were to apply for 2 cards in one day (Amex and then CIBC) and then a TD card afterward, TD will certainly see your 2 inquiries, as did CIBC after you applied for Amex. From what I've read, one of the reasons for doing the multiple apps in the same day (or close days) was to avoid the significant impact of a lowered score after the new credit takes effect.

On the first days you only take a small multiple point hit for each pull (2 points each or so). But a week or two later your score goes down several points per credit card and can take a 20 point hit or so.

Great piece of info, thanks

Why does TD bother to have a website for online credit card applications? It hasn't worked for me for 10 months!

I tried doing a TD Aeroplan Visa app through GCR once yesterday (Tuesday) and twice on Monday. Each time, I logged in using my TD EasyWeb access as directed on the app page from the GCR link.

All three times I received a message indicating that due to technical difficulties, they could not process my application at this time. They further suggested I try again some hours later or visit a TD location.

I chatted online briefly with a TD rep about the issue but succumbed to lack of patience and further technical difficulties (not necessarily on my part).

Too bad I didn't read your post prior to my apps. Ah well.

Did you try applying as a NEW Customer instead of existing?
ie. do not login to EasyWeb

Many used that trick to apply (myself too) and worked

I applied as an existing TD customer because I'm lazy and was attracted by the 'faster' application process :D.

I was impressed by all the prefilled info.

So... you're saying the GCR link and app should work no problem if I say I'm a 'new' TD customer?

I wasn't going to bother trying again but will on the off chance that will work.

Be real careful with you first and last names. As I said, if you change a single character from your first or last name, birthday, address. They will make you go the branch and you will lose your GCR rebate.

Noted. Thanks.
