MileKing ~ Actually, Priceline guarantees the quality of the hotel to some degree. You select the minimum acceptable hotel for you (one, two, three, four, or five stars), so if you slect three or four stars as a minimum, you're not going to get stuck in a Motel 6.

However, I still don't like the idea of not knowing what hotel I'll be in ... I'll stick to rooting the internet for cheap rooms!

DON'T USE IT, GUYS! I was desperate for a ticket over winter break, so I tried both Priceline and another similar website (forgot the URL). I tried Priceline first but did not get my ticket, so I tried the other one and got a ticket at a decent price. Boy, was I surprised to see the "extraneous" charges on my credit card bill from this company the next month. My credit card company is currently doing it's investigation on this matter....bottom line is, don't try it. The discount is not worth the hassle of the aftermath.

Beckles has an excellent point about the level of hotel. I actually put in 2 bid.
The first was for a 5 star, no one excepted it. Then I went for a 4 star and got the westin. They list the services that they consider 4 star and I limited the geographic selection to downtown seattle, so I knew what I was getting.

MileKing:

As for only an $11 price diff, I agree, I would NOT have used them excpet for the first night free deal, which makes my per night cost $59.

Of course I might have been sucessful with a lower bid. I don't know if the Westin would have gone for $100, maybe lower?

BTW: The failed bid on the 5 star, was for $132.

Again, without the first night free deal, I doubt I would have used it.

Boomer ~ One thing you have to remember about 5 star hotels, and I remember reading this somewhere in the Priceline stuff, is there are only at most a handful of them in any city.

A 4 star hotel is even pretty limited and will be of a very high quality ...

demeter ~ I don't necessarily agree with you extending your bad experience with one online service to another service that is in a similar line of business. It sounds like the only basis you have for not recommending Priceline is that they didn't accept your bid.

Ok, I'm going to Chicago on the 12th of August and I'll stay there for 4 nights.
I have reserved a hotel room at Best Western and by being curious what would happen If I try Priceline, I'm gonna be staying at Marriot O'hare instead ( $60/night ) The lowest available $89 and $99.
I guess that's a PRETTY GOOD deal.
No matter how I was skeptical of this service ... It changed it all tonight.

By the way: That will be me first try to check if they care about the fact that I'm not 21 yet

Do u know If I'm eligible to receive marriott rewards or miles in this case ?

Damian,
On Priceline's web site, http://www.priceline.com/ under Hotel Rooms/Frequently Ask Questions/What rules do I agree to when I place a hotel request with Priceline? it states:

Priceline does not provide frequent traveler points. Upgrades, certificate vouchers and other discounts or incentives do not apply to rooms reserved through priceline.
In many instances, even when reserving directly with the hotels, some of their discounted rates or special offers do not qualify for points or miles. Happy travels!

Whoa, this is an old thread, and since I had said:

"I've heard nothing but not so good things about Priceline."

early in the thread, I think it's only fair I reference my newer thread where my perception changed a bit:

Despite that disclaimer on the Priceline.com site, I've read several trip reports on USENET where folks have gotten points for their stays in some cases, particularly from Marriott affiliated hotels.

Basically, I wouldn't count on getting the points ... but if you do, all the better!

I have not personally used Priceline, but a friend of mine has. The down side is that if they find a ticket for you, you have to buy it, but she got a roundtrip from Denver,Co to New York, NY for $120! Unfortunately I do not know if she got miles credited fot the trip. I guess Priceline is a good or bad thing depending on what your needs are.

I recently used Priceline for a hotel stay at Las Vegas. They threw in $25/night for applying for a credit card. My 4 star bids failed a few times, so I lowered the price and got a 3 star for $65 a night weekend (so my price is $40/night).
