Hey, Everyone !
A question about Alaska Mileage Plan and status matches: I am MVP Gold 75k (earned, not matched). Well on my way to earning it again, but I'm wondering if, outside the major US carriers of UA, DL, and AA, there are any airlines that match MP. I'm now based in Bangkok and travel mostly to Europe and North America on BA, AY, AA, and CX, so I've been looking at joining those programs, but don't mind switching things up if it makes sense. BA has already said to me they won't match anyone, and I've read throughout here that AY is a no-go, too. I don't love AAdvantage's earning potential (though I recognize no one can really compare to AS on that!). Anyone have any luck with Qatar or Emirates, perhaps?

If you're interested in a OW status match, LATAM has one but with one major caveat, you need to have flown with them at least once in the past 12 months. If you meet that requirement, I would go ahead and try that .

I've also heard reports that AY can match you to Silver if you have flown at least one roundtrip with them in the past 12 months. But i think this is less official and not as publicized as the LATAM match.

Can I use AA MM 35K miles to qualify towards Elite?

Hi all, I've tried to follow thread and can't find this answer. I will hit 1MM+ on my next AA flight and will receive 35K BM. Do those count towards elite? I have a bunch of 500 mile upgrades sitting in my account (B/C they never expire! But Elite status does!). Trying to determine if I'll need to do a challenge or if it's in the bag. Thanks much!

Bonus miles do not count towards elite status. Welcome to FT.

I'm going to be a Flying Blue Gold (Skyteam Elite Plus) in a few weeks time, and I am considering a long trip to India in Ethiopian next January, but hold no *A status. Does Ethiopian offer any sort of status match? StatusMatcher.com only shows one case, from LATAM Platinum, which got denied.

I am not aware of any status match to Star Alliance, there may be some or not, but I just wanted to point out that you don't need to try to get a status match with Ethiopian just because you will fly them; status with any Star Alliance member will grant you benefits, so just try to get status with whichever Star Alliance is possible, not necessarily Ethiopian.

Yes, I looked at TK and UA but both are challenges and I don't see myself flying neither in the near future. Thanks!

Tried the offer on the IHG website 1 week ago, still waiting an answer from someone (ANA or IHG)..

Hi! I currently have UA Gold which I received through a status match from AA Platinum last year. I know that I can't status match to AA/DL, but is it possible to status match to equivalent status with someone else? I really don't care what airline, as long as I receive *Gold or OWS. I also don't mind flying a certain amount of miles in order to qualify for a match.

Maybe LATAM for OWS. I'm not sure how strict they are on earned status vs matched, but they do require a r/t flight on them before applying for a match.

Which Airlines status match Qatar Airways Privilege Club

Hi All - Hoping to find an airline with which to status match my QA Gold. I'm based in Saudi and the diplomatic row with Qatar made it unfeasible to keep using QA (have to fly from Riyadh to Doha via kuwait or muscat...not worth it). Anyone have any luck or know any airlines that have accepted QA gold? QA was nice enough to give me a year complimentary at Gold, but doesn't help if I can't fly them! Please help - Much appreciated!!

I have been thinking about LATAM. However, they require a round-trip flight with them to even be considered for a match. For me the only reasonable option would be to fly MAD-FRA-MAD and try them. But if they don't match or offer a challenge this flight was all in vain.

I've seen on statusmatcher.com that they've suspended doing matches. Not sure how true this is but something to keep in mind.

Boraxo Jun 10, 2018 3:11 pm

Southwest is currently offering 90-day status match to A-list with screenshot proof of status at another carrier. Mine was processed within 48 hours. Also note there is no “one per lifetime” BS as I did a similar match last year.

You can can extend A-list for 12 months by booking and flying 6 segments within the 90 days. Note they are very strict about the “flight must be booked after registering” as I got shut out last year trying to use a flight rez that predated the promo.

Sorry i I don’t have a link but should be easy to find via the usual bloggers. Hurry this may not last as it was originally targeted but apparently open to all right now.

nacho Jun 11, 2018 4:18 am

Thanks but I'm trying to access the site from outside the US and it said access denied. Do you think I have to be a US resident in order to do a status match?

TIA!

shkotz Jun 11, 2018 1:16 pm

I'm getting the same error message and I'm in the US.

This is probably useless for most people (like myself), but I hope someone can benefit from this:

dr Jun 18, 2018 4:24 pm

I have dropped off all status - due to non travel for sometime - former 1K several times but hoping to find a quick way to challenge for UA/AC status. I may start traveling again and would love to do so without a painful waiting period.

I have an AC flight in business class later this year that will be about 13k round trip.

Any suggestions on how to leverage this for status?

dr Jun 18, 2018 7:31 pm

I may be confused, but I thought 1mm miles got you lifetime status on AA, and they also count credit card miles, so I would think BM count (though not towards each year's qualifying.)

AA stopped counting credit card generated miles towards lifetime totals a long time ago unfortunately.

Anyone matching OW status to SkyTeam? Elite or E+ is fine.

Delta has a status challenge which includes 90 days of free status. Just look it up online and you'll see how to enter it.

Unfortunately they do not match Finnair so it's not an option.

Are you sure? Finnair may not be listed, but in the fine print they say they will consider status matches even from airlines not specifically mentioned.
I suggest still emailing them or sending them a Twitter/FB message to see if anything can be done.

I saw that point indeed in the terms, but the rep said they do not match AY.

Hi guys,

Can someone kindly help to point out the form for me to send a request for Emirates status match? Thanks.

Alex100i Sep 17, 2018 3:21 pm

I've got the status match with Air New Zealand, Gold until April 2019, 2 upgrades in area AUS/NZ for free.
How can I get a status match with SkyTeam?
(I cannot do it with the Delta Challenge).

DL is the only ST challenge I have seen lately. One option might be trying to trade a partner card from the coupon connection.

Japan Airlines FLY ON Report: Match | StatusMatcher
From ANA Mileage Club Platinum Service
To Japan Airlines FLY ON JMB Sapphire
Contacted JMB through online message after logging into account. Provided a future JAL business class booking number and a screenshot of ANA card with the message. Got a reply within a few days and asked for future travel plans. Provided the info requested and status was matched 1.5 weeks later.

Is it so easy to get OW Sapphire with JAL?
I knew that ANA and JAL are very demanding in giving away Elite status..

A couple years ago I did a free SM to EVA as a UA 1k. Never flew Eva before (nor since) but it got me into UC for over a year, even domestic. Not sure they are still doing it.

Any reports yet of successful LATAM status matches? as they are apparently accepting them again.

I currently have FB Platinum (SkyTeam Elite+) and am looking for a Star Alliance match, I’ll be flying with ANA next month and Lufthansa in a few months. From browsing and checking stausmatcher.com it looks like my best bet is to ask Turkish Airlines, but also have read conflicting updates on that. Does anybody have any leads? In general, should I ask multiple airlines within an alliance or is that not a good approach?

I recently tried to have my Iberia Oro (OW Sapphire) status matched with Turkish but to no avail. You will likely have more luck because this is what they said:

Miles&Smiles members who also have membership with the Skyteam (Elite Plus), One World (Emerald), Emirates (Gold - Platinum), Etihad (Gold - Platinum), El Al Israil Airlines (Platinum - Top Platinum), Finnair (Plus Gold), Oman Air (Sinbad Gold) are eligible to status match for Elite membership.

Photo of card (preferably physical), and a statement showing you earn your status by flying vs some promotion. So just a screenshot of your last statement with flights is fine.

DL will give you status for 3 months, but if you meet the status challenge PQM/PQD requirements you'll keep it for the whole year.

Can you choose when the temp status and 90 day accrual period starts?
