No, as soon as you apply and are accepted for the challenge the clock starts ticking

I recently did this challenge due to having some long haul flights on AF which would have got me very near the qualification, but for some reason the flown miles didn't even post to my DL account despite being in a full earning fare bucket

Hmmm, I'll be in a similar situation...

My current status ends Feb 28. So I was planning on applying ~ Feb 21. I have a long haul flight mid May, returning June 1st. This will qualify me for the challenge... I hope that DL will see when I actually fly and count them.

Regarding needing proof that I got my status the regular way... I got my status due to my flights in 2017... I am not sure how to get that data from AC's Altittude program, but I'll see.

Delta isn't the best at crediting partner miles. I had to contact them to get all my Aeroflot flights from this past summer credited, even though my SkyMiles # was on all of them.

Will United MileagePlus status benefit me at all for a flight I purchased using MileagePlus points? Or does United ignore status for award flights?

Separately, has anyone had any luck leveraging status with Delta SkyMiles for obtaining status with with ANA Mileage Club?

All status benefits apply regardless of being a revenue or award ticket.

ANA does not match status (no Japanese carrier does).

Except hilariously they matched IHG elites to ANA Platinum status. Kind of shocking that that is the one program they would match... :D

Hahaha. I know right. They refused to match me though so maybe not everyone. But you’re right :D

Perhaps because ANA and IHG operate a joint lodging venture:

InterContinental Hotels Group is the world's largest hotel group by number of rooms. In Japan, IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, a joint venture between IHG and ANA (All Nippon Airways) commenced operations on 1 December 2006 it is now the largest international hotel operator in Japan.

InterContinental branded hotels are located in Tokyo, Yokohama, Manza Beach and Ishigaki Resort in Okinawa. ANA Crowne Plaza branded hotels are located in main cities such as Chitose, Niigata, Toyama, Kanazawa, Narita, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Okinawa. In July 2010, the first ANA Holiday Inn opened in Sendai. IHG's portfolio in Japan continues to expand.

Anyone with any info on Cathay Pacific - Asia Miles status matching? Statusmatcher seems to point to recent successes.

They seem to match to Silver if you have a CX flight in the past 12 months.

Delta match for 2019?

Any ideas if Delta will extend status to Jan 2021 with matches completed July to December of this year, similar to what they did for matches that completed July to December of last year?

That's how it usually is if you match after July.

Not fully true.
In general they don't, but there are many case-by-case exceptions ;)

Currently I'm on Finnair Plus Platinum (OneWorld Emerald). As I have several SkyTeam flights scheduled for the next few months I was wondering if you have any recommendations for status matches so I could make use of the SkyTeam perks.
I am based in Amsterdam and KLM has already refused my request.

They do, but usually ask for much more that just a past flight, including detailed statements and future bookings on CX.

My application was just ignored by ANA. They didn't even bother to send an e-mail with rejection.

You can try Delta, they do a challenge with status upfront for 3 months. Or trade on CC for a Delta Silver or Gold status card valid for the rest of the year.

ondraondra Mar 4, 2019 2:55 pm

Lot of confirmed Finnair matching roughly 2 years ago after AirBerlin went bust, does anybody have more recent data points?

Going from *A Silver (LH-branded if that matters)

actually what happens if you match before July but complete the challenge after July, will it still be extended to 2021 i.e. is it based on date of completion or date of initial offer?

That's surprising to hear. DL is usually very generous in who they match, as long as it's not ST.
Did they specifically mention they don't match AY?
I was initially denied because they didn't like my digital card as proof. When I sent in my physical one I was approved. (matching from OZ)

Thank you for writing in requesting a status match with Delta Air Lines. While we appreciate your interest in our Medallion program, we do not match Finnair Airlines or any of our SkyMiles partners.

We appreciate your business and trust your future flights will be enjoyable. We hope you will continue to make Delta your airline of choice.

Regards,

SkyMiles Service Center

Huh, that's too bad. Not sure why AY isn't matched, it's a direct competitor of KLM which a DL flyer would use.

The wording suggests that the one who wrote that thinks that AY is a SkyMiles partner. Maybe that's why you weren't matched.

VegasGambler Mar 29, 2019 6:00 pm

Yeah I would just try again.

Aerolinas Argentinas: applied within time limit and no response for several MONTHS, when following up today received feedback that status match was only valid for Argentina residents, this was not mentioned anywhere.

How did you manage to follow up? Their email address seems to be offline and through social media I don’t get a response.

Stupid excuses like China Southern before. Another example of how Skyteam sucks.

If I'm LH HON Circle, with substantial interncontinental travel in F, what other major programs do you think I can try matching with? I'm looking at Flying Blue and BA Executive Club in particular, but am open to others.

I don't want a basic match, but I'm open to a challenge. And I avoid US carriers.

Why don't you do both AF and BA? Send an email to them, also to QR and CX.

AF just shot me down.

Will try the others although the first rejection definitely reduces motivation.

This is fair. I suppose I am looking for upgrade vouchers so I can pay for business instead. Always helps to save money.

And when connecting in EU, I want excellent ground support on non-F travel.

No program will give you upgrade vouchers with a match. That'd be a bit too generous.

You'll need to have flights booked with CX in order to get status match - send them statement with your F travel.

flyerCO Jul 14, 2019 2:06 pm

Getting conflicting info. I'm a DL Diamond who already qualified for next year, and if it was possible would already qualify for following year. Trying to match/challenge to Finnair . Where/how do I go about that.

That was a slimy excuse from them, as that was not a condition they mentioned when asking for hotel/airline loyalty program info (that could be swiped and misused).

DL's status match challenge is pretty specific:

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...challenge.html

Only those airlines are matched and they won't match a "matched" status unless you earned requalification the normal way.

Of course, ANA gives PLT thru 3/20 for IHG Spires. Mine went thru first time, immediately.
