I found 4 on the same flight DFW to Sydney round trip for last winter.
however it was 3 & 1 meaning I got the initial three then added the fourth about six months later. In the end we all sat in the business class cabin next to each other but it was a bit hairy for a while

This is all sorts of wrong. You can do VA one way (and combine it with DL low), and that direction will price at 75K for J. If you do DL medium the other way it will be another 120K. The problem comes in when you try to mix DL medium/high with a partner on the same fare component, as that will break the fare. Thus, you don't want JFK-LAX on DL in medium and then VA LAX-SYD, as that will go additive (and not just force the whole thing up to medium) and charge 55K for medium BE JFK-LAX plus 75K LAX-SYD . If you do SYD-LAX-JFK all in medium on DL, it won't force up the LAX-SYD VA from low. DL doesn't offer one-way awards at one-way prices, but they do price each direction of a round-trip independently, allowing you to do low one way and medium the other.

Does anyone know how United F compares to V Australia/Qantas J? I am about to book a oneway United first class ticket on the return as I was unable to find any other options. Has anyone here flown United F International before? I know that its not the best, but will the experience be similar to foreign carriers' J product?
