Need Help with Rewards Card...please

I am in the market for a new credit card since my Citi Thank You card reduced my point earning structure.

I have been doing research online and a lot on this website, which has been the most informative out of all of them but I am yet to find the specific information I am looking for...

I like to use my points for hotel stays during personal vacations so i think a hotel reward card is the way to go.

This site has helped me understand what rewards card is the best for point values but I would like to find out about earning the points. The discussions I have found talk about staying at hotels and earning points and then using them. My "wrinkle" is that I don't stay at hotels all that often for work, maybe a couple times per month. My big point earnings come from our everday spending. We charge about $6,000/ month and pay it off in full every month.

What card do you think give me best chance to earn points that will turn into free stays on our family trips? I think I have narrowed it down to Hilton and SPG.

FWIW...we also prefer higher end hotels when take family trip although mid-range hotels will work fine if we get tons more bang for the buck.

If you do take the time to read and answer this I really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

I agree that either Hilton or SPG will be the best cards for you. When you travel for business which brand do you tend to stay at?

For Hilton, you can get both the Citi card and the AMEX card. Possibly consider the AMEX Surpass card because of the increased earnings.

I would personally go with the Amex SPG card. You just get so much bang for your buck with those points.

And get both, and both for each member of your family that is able to.
