flight/mile planning
Some decisions are too hard to decide by myself... After becoming kind of addicted to the world of ff, some (former easy) things are getting much more difficult now. Good to know, that there are so many experts all over the world, who are so helpful. I am planning my flights for the next 8 months. Usually I fly LH (star alliance), but there are some very interesting offers by other airlines/alliances. This fall were planning to explore the eastcoast, propably flying to BOS or NYC. Next spring we have to be back in New Zealand after a break of 5year (too long time). This will be our honeymoon trip.
So these are my options:
- FRA (DUS) to BOS/NYC by Continental, they have a great offer for new OnePass-members (double miles and a 5000 miles bonus; that will be approx. 21.000 miles for that single flight)
- FRA (DUS) to BOS/NYC by United/LH, that will be a plus of approx. 8.000 miles on my miles&more account (now 22.000, but 12.000 status miles are going to expire in september)
- FRA (DUS) to BOS/NYC by Delta/Swiss/Sabena increases my Sky miles account to 13.000 miles
- FRA to AKL by Air New Zealand gives me another 25.000 miles for m&m
- FRA to AKL by any airlines connected to Continental (???) would give also about 25.000 miles, which would make me at least OnePass elite silver (and enough miles for a roundtrip award to the US)
- FRA to AKL by any airlines connected to Delta increases this account to 38.000 miles (not enough for a US award ticket)
I think all advantages are on the Continental side, but there are some disadvantages, too. The Continental fares are much more expensive than UA or Delta (ticket to NYC 780 DM compared to 550 DM) and I couldnt find any partner airline that takes me to New Zealand (Quantas is for US residents only). My idea is to make the OnePass account my "american award account" (40.000 miles offpeak roundtrip europe-US; does that mean only to NYC?) and use miles&more for european awards (fly smart offers).
Thanks a lot for your suggestions and recommendations

Dear Tcologne
I hope the following advice is of some use.
I have been stressing out a bit over what to do woth my frequent flyer miles (I have a few options). I am getting on top of it though.
The sensible approach is to forget the FF points altogether and ask yourself - where do I want to go? If I had the money, which country would I like to visit?
Once that's settled the rest is easy. First ask yourself which program is best placed to get me to the destination I wish to visit? Then all you have to do is target the airline deal that will give you miles on that program.
Good luck
cheers Peter
